I used to work at the William Hill call centre based in Milton House and was wondering if anyone else ever worked there or still does for that matter.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Looking to reminisce about 'the good old days' are you?

Why, in the name of all that is dark and scary, are you asking such a question? I'm still denying my 3 years there - even to myself.

Shall we share some stories with the SF crowd? :hihi:

I don't remember you.

I was wondering if Michelle was still on S.F. as she used to talk about it a lot. So rather than putting her name on Forum I thought the William Hill thread would get her attention. Clever eh?:loopy:

Yes we should. I'll start with the one about the member of staff who got the sack for standing up for himself when a colleague sent him homophobic texts. Or what about the Illegal practice of paying ex members of staff "Cash in hand" on Grand National day. Oh how we laughed.:hihi:

Only if they are suspiciously winning accounts, like every bet they ever stake comes up ... if there's evidence of dodgy behaviour, Hill's don't need to prosecute, they just stop taking your bets.

And i suppose sound buissness sense would be to make all winniing accounts suspious?

On the face of it, maybe, but in practice no. If people seriously believed that you wouldn't be allowed to win, nobody would bet with them, and they'd lose all the losing accounts as well.

Bookies know perfectly well, and don't care, that *some* people will turn a profit. The punting population at large always loses in the long run. The odds are fixed to make them do so, just like in a casino or any other form of gambling business. The only way to make a long-term profit out of a bookmaker is to own it.

Heyesey check out the Betfair forum general topic section where people often report various bookies closing or limiting shrewed punters accounts.

I think it is naive to criticise a bookmaker for ending non profitable business. If it was Tesco, for instance, do you think they would stock a product that continually made them a loss?

Bookmakers are not a charity and William HIll is a PLC and has share holders to answer to. Sorry to **** on your bonfire but its a business at the end of the day and its purpose is to make money!

Show me a bookmaker tha doesnt restrict winning clients and I'll show you a flying pig... they dont exist.

Welcome to the forum , so you there is no good reason to have a bet at all then, as in the long run you can not win ? well done. [and they either restrict to a very small amount or close the account ] at least Dick turpin wore a mask.

it also depends on how much you are winning - if you were a regular winner of small amounts i cant see them closing your account, its the people who are winning thousands each week that get looked at.

They do and the media never expose it as the bookmakers pay vast amounts in advertising each day ,its hardly fair trading joe mug public just accepts it as rich get richer.

I used to work at William Hill call centre from 2004-2006. It was great whilst being at uni as it was good money and funded by lavish uni lifestyle!

It was good fun at times. The people were nice enough and I made some good friends but the majority of team leaders (apart from mine) were up their own a$*es and walked round the place like they owned it!

I hated Saturday's as well and the fact you couldn't leave your desk without the 'powers that be' knowing exactly where you were. When I started my new job, for the first week I couldn't believe I was actually allowed to get up and get a drink without being watched! Everyone knew everyone's business as well!

My housemate works there, think he quite enjoys it actually. His claim to fame being he took a £2000 bet of robbie fowler, and his card was rejected.

Yeah and if you were 'unavailable' for more than a certain time each month it used to come off your bonus. You weren't allowed to be off sick more than twice in 6 months without being penalised on your bonus as well. It used to do my head in cos they didn't care if you were genuinly ill.
