Whereabouts in the Lakes are you going? It's a big place!

Try the "Hole in't Wall" pub in Bowness.

The Italian in the centre of town is great and the cinema's a trip down memory lane with it's retro interior.

go to ambleside - beautiful village! Could eat at the Glass House (made famous in Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares'). Then take a bus to Hawkshead (another even smaller village) or to Rydal (where the caves are - bit of a walk to get to them but well worth it).

I lived there for 3 years (in ambleside not a cave) and boyf lived there all his life so PM me if you want more ideas/ help/ advice.

I'd second Ambleside - lovely place. There's a good pub just outside it (near Scaffel Pike I think) called the Badger Bar - top pub grub.

I stayed in Keswick and loved it. Castlerigg (or High Rigg) Stone Circle is really atmospheric, worth a visit and on a clear day its very impressive to see all the mountains surrounding it. I cant wait to go back.

I stayed in Borrowdale, at the Langstarth Inn, its a lovely spot, but quite remote. Keswick is in easy reach by car and so is Ullswater.

jammy devil ... wish I was going:D

the queens pub in Bowness served a decent real ale last time I was there, the walk up the hill from windermere gets you nice and thirsty too

boat rides to either end of the lake are fun, ambleside is definitely worth a visit

ooo you could probably manage a train ride down to Kendal from Windermere also worth a visit

hope you have a nice time

oh, I've raised hell many a time in the Old Dungeon Ghyll walkers bar in Langdale. (which has in no small way contributed to my being thrown off the campsite several times the next morning.....)
