Hello!

I'm getting married in Harrogate on 26th but need to get waxed, eyelash tint and get my hair dyed/highlighted here within next couple of weeks.

Can anyone please advise me of where is good?

I went to Poseurs to get my eyebrows waxed last month but she burnt my eyelid and it was a bit red for a while so I don't want that!
Plus when I got waxed before on my bikini line, I got white heads so any tips to prevent that would be really helpful too. They used tea tree wax, I used tea tree oil after etc but came up with loads. Thank you. :)

Your eyebrows are bound to be red after youve had them waxed, its nothing to do with the person doing it incorrectely, although if she burnt you, I can see why it put you off. Make sure you leave it a couple of days before the wedding so the redness will have gone for definite.

The skin was peeling off for about 3 days and it was an obvious burnt patch where the redness didn't go down for about a week. Not nice but I've been there several times before with no problems. I'd just be worried it was the same person but I didn't take much notice of what she looked like unfortunatly.

Just really need a hair colouring place. I've only had my hair cut in Sheffield and never dyed so if anyone can recommend anywhere I'd be very greatful.

I've done a quick search and couldn't find a thread that was suited to my problem.

Basically I'm getting married next month and my nails are short and quite scruffy.

I hate having long nails and I don't want anything semi-permanent (as long as they last about a week). However I do want something professional looking.

Any ideas? Cost is not an issue. So if people advise I go and have gels done and then get them removed, I don't mind. I'd have a french manicure for the big day.

Also if people have good experiences of any salons in the city centre that also do pedicures, would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Hi spicey, i had tips put on my nails for my big day. They last approx 1-2 weeks, you can buy some gel/liquid to soak them off if you want them off sooner.
I had a french manicure finish, then on my wedding ring finger I had a heart shape sprayed into the white tip, and a tiny diamante in the centre. It was a nice touch.
Unfortunately the woman who did mine is no longer in sheffield, but there are plenty of nail salons around who will offer the same kind of thing.

Thanks astronaut77, that sounds ideal for me. Just need to find a place in Sheffield (that comes recommended).

Thanks for the D2J, I just thought that doing your nails can be quite general, I'm sure there are loads of women out there who take pride in theirs, unlike me :(

Your nail sounds like mine. :hihi:
Can't really advice, apart from the suggestion of a French Manicure too. What I do remember from talking to my cousins who did get theirs done is, to really get rid of it sooner after you're done with the wedding. Cos the nail starts to grow underneath it. Also, do choose one that does not strip off too much of the base. I can't remember which method is better now.

Anyhow, the likes of Virgin Active does have a wedding package. It may have French manicure in there. I know there is also a specific nail place on West St. I'm not sure how good they are. There is also another nail place in Meadowhall, near M&S. Hope that helps.

Hey, congratulations by the way! :)

In my experience, the big salons aren't as good as the independent small boutiques. The lady I went to worked in a small beauty salon in Handsworth - I only discovered her because I saw the sign as I drove past one day. Might be worth just trying a couple of local ones in your area (they are cheaper too!).

Spicey, I'm a nurse so my nails are not very glamerous due to all the hand washing and alcohol rubs.

I started using diamond strength formula about a month before my wedding. I reapplied it every couple of days and it gave my nails enough strength to grow to a reasonable length.

I had a french manicure on the morning of my wedding and they looked lovely, and I was very proud that they were all my own!

So far considering the tips and scoops idea of my own, although it will be hard to refrain on chewing on my fingers as I have so much on my plate at the moment.....

No, no, I don't mean whether it looks good or not. It's the removal part which you need to be aware of, cos it can cut away your base layer, and it may not grow again! Not wanting to scare you, but my cousin did show me what happened to her nails after the wedding, and she had it on for a little too long. Even though it was recommended for her to do so.

I'm getting married in February 2008 and need some advice about hair and make-up on a budget.

I don't usually wear make-up so I have no idea how to do it myself! But I don't want to spend hundreds of pounds on a professional. I thought about going into one of the department stores for a free advice/make-over session to give me some ideas but then I'd have to buy the make-up - suppose I might use it again! Apart from that I don't know what to do!!

So any advice/ideas you've got would be great!

Thanks!

Hi I've got the same problem as Tiggerific! I'm not used to wearing make up and don't want to look like a child that's been let lose with her mother's make up bag on the day! Does anyone know anywhere in the south side of the city (Woodseats/Sharrow/Heeley etc) that might offer this same service?

Hiya Jessm, I found that if you ring up hairdressers that have a 'beauty' bit, like make up/sunbed etc explain your situation, they'll either.. make an appointment to see them, or if they don't do 'weddings' they refer you to another shop that does it. I've had to do this 5 or 6 times for family getting married on a budget. My Aunt got her whole wedding for less than £750. Hope this helps..

Hello! I've been cultivating my nails for a few weeks now and they usually grow quite nicely but with less than 2 weeks to my wedding I've nearly broken them all!!! :(

Can anyone recommend a good salon or mobile technician who can do me a nice set of 'falsies'? And which 'falsies' are the best the acrylic ones you glue on or the ones that are built up with loads of layers of 'stuff'? (Are they called UV nails?!?!) I'm not very girly so I have no idea about these things!!!!

Thanks!

I too am not very girly and wanted my nails doing for my wedding last summer. I tried the silk wrapped ones and broke them all in the first couple of days. I then tried acrylics and they were great - I never managed to break a single one. Most nail salons are fine and capable of doing a decent set of acrylics, but I would avoid the Chinese type places, they tend to remove false nails by grinding them off, they ruined my nails when I had my tips removed!

Do you have a friend who uses make up? I'm sure if you asked them they will gladly share their make up with you for the day and help you apply it. It saves you going out to buy things you won't use again.

I've had acrylics, silk wrap and fibreglass (although I gave up having any false nails a number of years ago) and the best advice I can give is that you need to think about what you're likely to be doing with your nails on.

If you aren't used to having long nails then you can cause yourself lots of pain by catching your nails on things. If you had natural nails then catching them on something would break your nails, but if you have mega tough false nails they don't break and you are instead at risk of pulling your natural nail off your nail bed if there is sufficient force behind the movement. I managed to rip my nail totally off my nail bed on 2 fingers catching a heavy ball which I really shouldn't have attempted with long nails. Had my nails been natural or the glue been weaker I would have broken them or ripped the false nails from my natural nails.

If your nails go very soft when immersed in water you may find that you need to have a really strong sort like acrylics though- my nails go so flexible that they break the glue bond with most false nails if I go swimming or similar, so that's another consideration.

I agree that acrylics seem to last longest, but they also caused the most damage to get them removed.

Hi.

Im getting married in jamaica in 3 months.

I want my hair a bit up with the rest down and curly (sort of like with GHDs or something)

Trouble is I cant really find a picture. And im worrying that whoever the hairdresser is that she wont be able to do it me (and i dont fancy dreadlocks :hihi:)

Should i get someone to do my hair here? buy the clips and everything and then take a picture? oh i dont know........im proper panicking :(

emharrison
27-03-2008, 11:12
yes, get it done here first...

then you wont be panicking,

I am doing exactly that this weekend, as am having my hair done by a little hairdressers who usually does blue rinses, so thought it would be wise to get a practice run first.

REMEMBER to ask lots of questions and write down the techniques that they used and take pictures of each stage as well.

good luck and then post the result here!!

I just got married in Antigua and my daughters and I were worried about the same thing in the end we all just ended up with our hair left down and fairly natural as it was quite windy (we married in a white gazebo overlooking the sea) Even when we had some photo's taken on the beach it still looked great to have our hair naturally blowing. I'm not sure what location you're getting married but do think about the wind from the sea if you do. :)

My 8 year old daughter has decided that she wants flowers/fancy combs or something like in her hair for a wedding next week. She is not a bridesmaid, so nothing to extravagant.
She has quite long hair, and would like it took up with said tranquilment! Can anyone suggest a Hairdresser preferably in S6, or near, who could do this?

Thanks in advance

why not try different things on yourself
a couple of weeks before.
no one knows your face as much as you
and you know what suits you best.
dont use alot of makeup
start with a consealer..(like a undercoat.lol)
before your powder/cream
keep it light and simple i'd say.!
theres also alot of new lipstick out now that suppose to last all day.

My personal advice is to speak with the MUA first and see what they can offer for you. Ask for a trial - without committing yourself to them for the big day.

Ask to see photo's of work they have already done.

A good MUA will have a list of questions for you too - to find out what you are after on the day and should be able to do what you ask for. If you dont know what you want you should get a few suggestions from the MUA and I always offer a few trials to get it right.

If you need any more advice please feel free to PM me

I spoke to my usual hairdressers this morning about wedding hair, and she said she's willing to do it, providing the boss will allow her to leave the salon so she can come to my home :) . Does anyone know any good websites for hair designs cos I'm not 100% sure what I want and have to go in for a trial. The only ones I found feature quite frankly scary looking models with 'perfect' cardboard hair lol, and the designs tend to be a bit elaborate.

Yeah I agree with you, and why do are all the wedding up do's have to be scraped back. . . .not a flattering look unless of course you look like one of the model's.
I have been looking for a while honeyb even though I don't get married until June 09, just want to get it sorted. . .I would like something romantic, perhaps loose curls taken up. . .I know what I want but getting it is a different matter!
Please let me know if you find any good mags or web-sites as I think I have exhausted both at the mo :(
Good Luck

I havn't been able to get hold of her by email of phone and I'm starting to worry....she is part of a company....so it's odd that no-one ever seems to be about.

Hi,

I am getting wed in Sheffield on the 1st of May and want my hair and make up done on the day (with a pre wedding test).

I have longish hair at the moment but am due to get it cut soon so would like to have some extensions to make it look longer (as I want it curly for the wedding).

Who can do this and what prices? Any help would be great.

I want my hair sort of like this for my wedding although I will have a tiara (no veil though).

I have just past the shoulder length hair so am looking to make it longer, this doesn't have to necessarily be through expensive extensions as I have used the clip in extensions as well as extensions which last a month previously.

Please could anyone help with this?

Thanks,

All Brides to be, please read:

Do not have your dream day ruined by arranging for someone to do your hair/make-up/nails unless you have had a trial with them at least a few weeks before.

There are people who claim to offer a hair/make-up/beauty service on a mobile basis who I wouldn't trust to touch my pet dog let alone anyone who is going to get married!

Just to save a couple of quid it is so really not worth it. I've used one or two mobile people on here. One was good the other one a total nightmare, don't get caught out.

Hiya

I would always recommend the bride has her hair done first - Due to the heat styling and product used by hairdressers. However I have found it works well if you are having hair done and makeup done at home for the makeup artist and the hairdresser to work in conjunction together. Ie Brides hair done to almost finishing point then makeup then back to hairdresser for finishing touches. This works great if the bridesmaids are also being done as I have often done the bridesmaids makeup after they have had their hair done. (Haridreser usually arives around half an hour to an hour before me) then while bridesmaids makeup is applied the bride is having her hair done. Then while bridesmaids are putting on their dresses I am doing the brides makeup. This means the bridesmaids are available for helping the bride get into her dress etc. If there are any small bridesmaids this is when they get their fairy dust applied and pink lip gloss to help them feel like a princess so it keeps them out of the busy rooms upstairs. It really is like organising a military operation Good Luck and hope your day is spectacular. elaine x :)

Makeup(first). I prefer to do it simultaneously.I start with the hair, either blowdry, straighten,or put the hair in rollers depending on the style.Do the makeup and then complete the hairstyle and do the finishing. Im a makeup artist and hairstylist so it convenient. Otherwise if going separately then discuss it with your hairstylist.

hi there. i have worked with conderella hair extensions for the last 2 to 3 years in my salon and they are the best ive ever used by far. what cinderella has which most other pre bonded method dont have is a pmb bond, which basic means the bond is a protein not a glue and far better for the hair. cinderlla hair is also remy grade which means it is cuticle correct which means less tangling.

please stay away from monofibre hair. if you put strightners on monofibre hair it will frazzle trust me

i paid someone to come to my home and they cost £350 ,had them in about a week and give me really bad headaches so i had 2 take them out .wot a waste .then i saw some clip in ones on ebay made from human hair cost me £55 for a full head and there great you can wash them strighten and dye them and you cant even feel them in your hair and no headaches :) :D :D :D :D

they were obviously put in far to tight to have caused you this pain. as a fully qualified hair extentionist it appauls me to think there is people obviously not properly trained out there doing this kind of thing. good job you had them took out as extensions which are put in two tight is what cases hair loss

Hi all

Does anyone know where I can get my little girls hair done nice for a wedding in September as her and her sister are bridesmaids (youngest doesn't have enough hair yet though, bless!)? Somewhere in Sheffield, or someone who can come to me?

She has chin length slightly wavy hair and I find it hard to put it up in a ponytail at it's current length as bits fall out but I am sure a professional can make it look wedding-y!?!?

Also... I have the same problem, I have thick hair in an outgrown concave bob which still isn't that long but shorter at the back than the front. If anyone could do anything nice to my hair (not an up-do) at the same time that would be great!

It's not for almost 2 months but I thought I had better plan now.

Thanks in advance x

Ooh- also, I want my nails done and will probably use a lady who does them in your own home if she is free but if anyone does both hair and nails and the price is right I would do that.

Ta x

Getting married is one of the most important and most expensive days in our lives, and there is so much to think about and to do.

The brides wedding hair seems to be towards the bottom of her "to do" list, but it is one of the most important things on her wedding day. Brides-to-be contact me in a panic on a regular basis because they cannot find someone to do their hair as they have left it quite late to organize......

Most salons do not offer a wedding hair service at the brides home, hotel or wedding location, and the specialist mobile wedding hairdressers can be booked up many months in advance.

Think about your wedding hair as soon as you have confirmed your wedding day and decided upon your dress. Because the longer you leave it, the less chance you will have in finding a mobile wedding hairdresser that is available for your date and time slot.

Please contact me by email at brides@sheffieldweddinghair.co.uk

or through my website below...

Hi
I'm getting married in May 2011. I would like to know of either a mobile hair and make up professional or salon in the chesterfield area. I don't want it to be too expensive as does everyone i assume. I know its early but really want to get sorted out.:)

Thanks

Hiya katie, thank you for enquiring about wedding hair and make up for your big day, you are not too early looking at wedding hair, in fact its the dead opposite. many brides are booking their hair months in advance because good wedding hairdressers get booked up real quick. Its not like having your hair done under normal circumstances, there is a lot of pressure to get everything right on your wedding day, and the last thing you want is a fumbling nervous hairdresser lol.....

As you are in the Chesterfield area, can I suggest that you email the Chesterfield bridal stylist in our network directly ( I have pm'd you her email address ) She will then let you know if she is available and give you a quote. She is really good at what she does, so you wont be disappointed with her work or her price.

If you dont get through to her then email me at brides@sheffieldweddinghair.co.uk and I will be able to sort it out for you....

I hope that helps, get in touch as soon as possible because we are all getting enquiries in all the time for next year and you need to book your date as soon as poss.

regards
John

To post on this again with specifics...

I am looking for my hair doing (I am not the bride btw!) if possible on the morning of 17th Sept. I have mid length hair which is a concave bob that has grown out and would like it softening up with loose curls or a few twisrly bits here and there among straight hair (with volume) IYSWIM? Also my daughter who has mid legnth hair is a bridesmaid so would love her hair doing in a nice up-do that will stick the day if poss!

I also want my nails doing- preferably white tips with gel or acrylic and a classic french polish finish, maybe something a bit extra, a bit pearly or shimmery but nothing obvious.

Anyone possibly do those things together? It would be better to get the hair(s) and my nails done all at once either at home or a salon in Sheffield on the 17th Sept. If not, I could get the nails done the day or two before but I already used a lovely lady before for nails so if I can't get the nails and hair done on the day then I would probably use her for the nails.

Can anyone fix this for me?? :hihi:

Hello everybody

I can recommend a FANTASTIC make up artist for your wedding. Shes pretty new and she did mine 2 months ago. Her prices are SO GOOD compared to others in Sheffield and she travels anywhere n everywhere to do make up. Check her out her website is www.zara-beauty.co.uk or just give her a call 07833 571 488. She does make up for any skin type and any skin colour but book her asap before your big day just in case shes already booked up.

She does packages aswell - i got the body wax and make up package coz it was cheap!

Good luck everybody!

Hi there,

Im wanting someone to do my hair and make up - and that of my 3 bridesmaids - for my wedding in May.
Ideally, we'd prefer someone to come to us but we can travel within in reason (the wedding is in Sheff).
Hair would just need 'putting up' so no cut or colour or anything... and make up would be quite basic / subtle (we're no glamour pusses!) - just someone to pamper us a bit and make us look the part!! :)

Can anyone please help?

Thanks!

Hi,

Wondering if anyone has any GENUINE recommendations for wedding hairdressers, or if you are a hairdresser who can provide photos of your work- I would prefer to see examples before I fork out for a trial. I have very thick long hair and want an classy updo that will last all day.

I'm very happy to visit a salon near me (Hillsborough, Crookes, Broomhill)

They would need to be available on the morning of 13th August.

Can anyone recommend a hairdresser that is used to dealing with curly hair for my wedding please? I'm mixed race and have a lot of hair but I would say it's more English then afro hair.
Or if your a hairdresser that has no experience of my hair type but isn't scared of doing a trial please get in touch!

Can someone explain why the "on the day" makeup/hair costs double of the trial? Isn't it exactly the same, and maybe even more work on the trial as surely there is more to do as you change things to get the look right?

I just get annoyed when the word wedding is put in front and suddenly things go up in price.

This is so true. I'm sure if you said your hair-do was for another event like a prom or ball, you would get a totally different price quoted.

My step-daughter for her wedding was charged £20 for the trial on just her, and on the day for her, and her Mum it was £40. Not bad considering they opened especially on a Sunday for her, and her Mum had her eyebrows waxed too!!

Unfortunately that's in Mexbro' and way to far for me to travel LOL

Hi there

Can anyone do mine and my daughters hair on the late morning/early afternoon of 20th Aug this year? I need to travel to my wedding late afternoon.

I am looking for something cheap and don;t require a trial for my daughter. I am thinking some sort of tousled bun/ side bun and as a poor student (!) can't afford loads. I can come to you or you can come to me in S8. Please PM me with a price if you can help :)

I really want my hair half up and half down for my friends wedding with two side fishtail plaits... can anyone recommend anywhere in S35, S6 or city centre? The same applies for an excellent french manicure on my own nails.

Thanks!!

Finally got my make up sortedand hair sorted :)

Managed to get the local hairdressers and beauty shop that are next to each other, and local (not bothered about it being done at home), and the make up is £15.00!! That's for on the day, and of course the same again for the trial. She's actually coming in especially as she doesn't work Fridays, so it seems to be coming together nicely :)

Then the hairdressers are charging from £15.00 depending on what is done. As I want a fairly simple half up-do, I can't see it being much over that <grin>

I lurve it when a plan comes together LOL

Where do you live?

I think I am doing the same with hair- a local salon. I can't see how people can justify spending huge amounts of money of wedding hair-it's only an up do, not a colour n cut!! Will do my own make up x

I'm at Lodge Moor, and can't do make-up to save my life so treating myself on that score LOL

I think most local hair salons would do hair at a decent price, just get a trial done first so both know what is to be done etc :)

Hi,

I wondered if anyone can recommend someone (who will come to my house) to do wedding make up for me and my 3 bridesmaids?

Short notice I know (I get married on 30/07) but the person who was going to do it let me down.

I would also appreciate recommendations for someone to do my nails, and I had thought about a spray tan too..

I live in S10

Please PM me.

Thanks

Hi- desperatley need a wedding hair trial for myself and hair ont he day on Sat 20th Aug pref at my home in S8 although can travel if not too far- I marry at 4.30 and not in Sheff so would have to be late morning I guess? Not wanting to pay the earth- was going to have a loose side bun with bits falling down around my face but also may have a down-do as my hair looks better down I think. ALSO my 5yr old daugther wants her hair curling on the day (no trial reqd). Please PM me if you can do this! x

I had my wedding hair trial today at the local hairdressers and cost me £15, and will cost the same on the day ...... I was in for just over 2 hours (I had a cut whilst I was there) and am very happy with the way it was done.

Make-up trial is the middle of August and that is costing the same price.

I would recommend if you have a local hairdresser, that you try them as it will probably work out a lot cheaper :)

I had my make up trial yesterday at the shop bang next to where I am having my hair done (trial'd a couple of weeks ago). I have to say I am really happy with the results of the make up and am really looking forward to it being done on the day. It's such a relief to have the hair and make up sorted.

So, it's thank you to Pure Bliss for the make up and Hepburns for the hair ... two things that I really don't have to worry about, and all for a bargain price of £15 for each :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Hi, i have been trying to decide if i want to do my own make up or have it professionally done and i went to a wedding fair today and had my make up done by a company and it was soooooo bad! So i am now worrying that if i get it done professionally it will look horrible. Also, i understand i would have a trial maybe a month before the big day and i would pay for this and of course the make up on the wedding day but i want to also meet with a few make up artists and have just a quick mini session to see if i like their work but dont want to have toi pay for these- because dont see why i should if they dont do a good job. Does anyone know of any make up artists that would do this?

I think you would struggle to get someone to do this unless you was having someone who did party plan and you had make-up done as part of a party. The idea of the trial is to work with you discussing your usual amount of make-up, the colours of the wedding, what you were thinking you would like your make-up like. The trial often actually takes longer than the make-up on the day because it is change until its right. So for the amount of work that should go into the trial you'll not get anyone to do it for free I wouldn't have thought

27-09-2011, 08:39
I have managed to find someone who will do it- i dont want a free trial, just a meet up where i can see if the make up artist is any good. I dont think it is right to expect people to pay for a consulation when that is where the customer decides if the make up artist is right for them. I am going to arrange a meet up with the person who will do it for free a.s.a.p so watch this space!

I had Sarah from pinupcreative.co.uk on 31st Dec 2011. She was really good, did my wedding hair and two bridesmaids - all looked fab. We had a trial first and then she re-created it on the day. Really professional and very well priced. Would recommend to any bride.
