I use firefox too and much prefer it to IE.

Only trouble with firefox is that the SF chatroom doesn't work that well with it.

I use firefox at home since my IE issues.
It's a good programme and it's handy opening more tabs in the same window. However it does have issue with websites that 'do things' rather than just all HTML.

E.g. With my site mobileunlocked.co.uk I run tests to make sure the scripts work (on a weekely basis). Mozilla Firefox gets to a certain point and the window goes blank. With IE6 it runs fine (when I can get IE 6 to work that is).

Also Firefox doesn't show all links on web pages, usually links that are to add things to a shopping basket for instance.
It is a good browser, but not a great substitute for IE.

I think t020 uses one that's not Mozilla that's pretty good, although I forget what it is.

Yup - the cursor comes out of the blue bar where you type and scrolls half-way up the convo in the room.

I use Firefox at home and in the office. It works with around 99.99% of the websites I use. Only exceptions are sites run by Mr W. Gates and his minions plus a few of the online travel sites when you're searching. But given the security issues around IE, I feel safer using Firefox for the majority of web tasks.

opera is by far the best brower IMO - tabbed browsing (like IE 5 on the mac) that works - Firefox tabbed browsing just failed for me despite selecting the option at every juncture.

The free version is supported by banners, so I went for the paid for version. Its only a 2mb download too (compare that to IE/Firefox) and full support for CSS2, HTML4, XHTML1, HTTP1.1, DOM1, ECMAScript, PNG, Unicode, and the Unicode Bidirectional Algorithm.

Of course it's $50. I coughed up after about a week of using it, and have never regretted it (free upgrades).

It also renders pages faster than any other browser I have tried.

And it is available for PocketPC, Series 60 Symbian and UIQ Symbian Platforms too as well as windows and mac, OS/2, Linux, FreeBSD and solaris.

And to top it all, It's Scandinavian in origin, like PHP, MySQL, Linux and other wonderful things (like me :) )

I was a bit non-plussed at first, but now using IE seems like using an antique piece of software.

I use FF 99% of the time, the only sites it doesn't work on (that I use somerimes) are National Lottery (which block you completely), and the TrainLine (but that sometimes complains with IE, too).

Of course my main reason is the Web Developer toolbar, which lets me easily test loads of things easily - e.g. turning off CSS, javascript, outlining various elements, and loads of other things.

To be fair, DaB, you can't blame the browser for your site not working - it is really the javascript / whatever other coding that is at fault (since FF is much more standards compliant that IE).

There is a very useful extension you can download, which adds a 'View this page in IE' option to the right click menu, to switch back easily if something isn't working!

what you have to wonder is why these sites dont work?

a lot of the time sites i come across dont work because they are in theory preforming actions that are a security threat!

id rather it didnt work and if need be i use IE, than have IE that is such a risk.

I was a big fan of Opera, but after giving FireFox a try didnt look back

Nick, it's not actually my site that has the problem, it's the site which takes my payments.
You get directed from my site, to authorise payment with my merchant company at which point Mozilla Firefox stops dead with a blank page.

I've notified the company and they're looking into it.
It MUST be something with Firefox because it works happily with Opera and IE6.

Either way Firefox for me is just OK - nothing special.

Pretty inexcusable that a payments company doesn't support a browser used by nearly 5% of the market.

Anyone else using this instead of Microsoft's Internet Explorer? Because of all the breaches in security with Microsoft's internet products, we switched over to Mozilla 2 months ago. Since then, we have not had one solitary pop-up or any spyware infiltration. Any feedback out there?

I have to admit I have been using Opera for months now and find it fab - certainly I find it faster, more stable and having a very good pop-up blocker. I can reccomend it :)

Which v. are you using?
O.8, 0.91, 0.93, 1.0Preview Release - all of them are either pretty pants at hacking SF Chat room - or tell me to install Java plugin - (and then Mozilla site can't "find" the plugin. (!!)

What's Opera like?

I almost never read the help files, and like to find out the odd little tip, one I found while using firefox is if you press the scroll wheel (if you have a mouse with middle mouse button too) then if you press it on a link, it will open the link in a new tab.
