A genetic counseller has recently told a member of my extended family about of genetic risks of certain cancers. Closer members of my family may be at risk of carrying the BRCA-1 and BRCA-2 cancer gene and they would like to be tested specifically for that.
Further to that, it may result that I am also at risk.
Does anyone have any idea where or how we can have have the test? I know it's possible but I cannot locate anywhere to have it done.
Can anyone help?
Thanks a million to anyone who can.

A Google search brought these results:

Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, The University of Sheffield, Sheffield, UK

North Trent Molecular Genetics Laboratory, Sheffield Children's Hospital, Sheffield, UK

The BRCA test are done by the Molecular Genetics dept which is located at the childrens hospital, when i worked there 5 yrs ago the genetic counsellor would have taken the test and passed it on to them.

It maybe worth them contacting the counsellor again and asking them how to get it done or get their own GP to do the speak to the dept and take the bloods for them.

Going through your GP would probably be the easiest and quickest route Zebra. Explain to them your situation and they should refer you. You'll have to go for counselling first and probably after the test.

I would say if they have already seen a genetic counsellor then to get in touch with them again and ask for the tests.
