Windows Messenger, which comes built in with XP is not MSN Messenger or Windows Live Messenger. You should be able to turn it off by going into Tools > Options > Preferences, and unticking the relevant boxes.

As for pop-ups with Windows Live Messenger, where did your daughter download it from, Mandi? If it was directly from the MSN website, it's quite likely that she may have been on another spyware-ridden website. However, if she downloaded it from a download site, quite often downloading from those sites also means you get a few unwanted extras.

Popups from Windows Live Messenger? I dont get them, do you mean your getting MSN Today?

If it is, then just deactivate it in the Windows Live Messenger Tools..

If you dont like Windows Live Messenger anyway, just uninstall it as said in the post before and then install MSN Messenger again..
