Look out after Christmas too because Seasons will be undergoing some big changes. We'll be bringing you the same high quality food but at a lower price; with more emphasis on organic, more local produce and above all, more Sheffield!

Sure, you know where your toaster is, right?
redrobbo 29-11-2006, 00:03 What is "Toasted Sesame Cod" that accompanies the Pea Soup?
Also, what is "Yorkshire Sauce"?

i) it's a piece of cod fillet encrusted with sesame seeds and grilled. It sits in the middle of the soup and gives the dish an original but very English twist ...like cod and mushy peas basically!
ii) Yorkshire sauce is a redcurrant jelly based sauce with mustard and port in it ...it's sweet and tangy and really compliments the rich, smooth parfait.
i was really disappointed when i went to seasons. i was expecting really good tasty food but i have to say instead it was one of the worst meals i've ever had! I'm hoping it was just the chef having an off night because I've read good things about it (hence going in the first place). Being typically British I didnt complain at the time - I didnt want to spoil the evening further as it was a celebration for my partner but i really hope it was a one off as Sheffield definitely needs more interesting eating places! Not sure I'll be risking it again though.

I'm very sad to hear your meal didn't live up to your expectations and I have to say I'm a little surprised. I am by no means on here to brag but I can honestly say that in the year and a bit we've been open we have built up a fairly enviable reputation and have had almost no complaints or dishes sent back, so for you to say it was one of the worst meals you've ever had comes as quite a shock.
I am disappointed that you didn't bring this to our attention at the time and instead chose to air your grievance on a thread I'd started to promote awareness of our Christmas menu, because I assure you, our goal is one of excellence and we would have been more than happy to rectify the issue there and then. We don't want anyone to go away unhappy ...and to be fair to ourselves, the vast majority of our customers don't! Still, I guess you can't please some people.
Perhaps you work for one of our rivals? :D
voodoodanny 02-12-2006, 01:49 Just a quick update, we are now taking bookings for Christmas Day. 3 courses for £45.00, space still available so book now!

I also didn't have a great experience at Seasons. I went in March/April for mothers' day (can't remember when the date was this year). I thought the food was "ok", the place was equally average, and yet I thought it was pretty over-priced for the standard of cooking and service. It had a sort of haphazard, cheap atmosphere, for example the only coffee available was filter coffee but our waitress laughed about our requesting espressos after our food. When we mentioned that the place was very warm (my mother is of that age) the waitress showd us that the control on the radiator was right next to where we were sat and suggested we alter it. I'm certainly more than happy to pay high prices for food if its worth it, but felt that Seasons had an opinion of itself that it didn't live up to.

the menu sounds wicked voodoodanny :)

Well again, I'm truly sorry you didn't have the greatest time at Seasons, I do wish people would take it up with us at the time rather than do it here when all I'm trying to do is promote our Christmas menu though. I also hope this isn't just because we disagreed on the doorstaff thread! :P
Seasons is a small, predominantly family run business. We're all passionate about food and we're just trying to do our best. We're not pretending to be The Ritz, but one of our chefs has worked there and all our staff know their stuff. We've had 5 star reviews in The Star so don't just take my word for it. Again, I guess you can't please all of the people all of the time but there're plenty of people we have pleased so don't just rely on the stories of those who are out to discredit us, come and sample us for yourselves!
Alas, the restaurant industry: You set yourself up for criticism from day one.
voodoodanny 03-12-2006, 01:25 i would still like to know if i can have toast with marmite - that is typically British fayre?:)
Toast and Marmite is strictly 'bring your own' ...oh and eat it outside, there's a good chap. Marmite is a bugger to get out of the hardwood floor! ;)

Thanks Komal, ha, wow, you're on every website I am! Mental!

Yes we are open for Christmas day and yes we still have some space available. I'm not entirely sure if we have a final menu for the day itself yet but it's set at three courses for £45.00 and the choice will most probably be much like our Christmas party menu (see the link above) but with a few extra special festive additions!
I'll repost when I have more details on that.
Thanks for your interest.
pete_jim 03-12-2006, 12:10 We went a while ago to Seasons and had a really nice evening, I know everything is relative but I didn't think it was expensive and £45 for Christmas Day is giving it away compared to 95% of the other Christmas menu's I've looked at.
absynthfairy 03-12-2006, 14:53 Went to Seasons on Friday night and it was wonderful as always - We save it for our special occasions for a reason. Good food and a friendly and warm atmosphere - couldn't ask for more really...and I'd hardly call 3 courses and 3 bottles of wine (plus complimentary cream!) for £25 a head expensive!
Thanks Komal, ha, wow, you're on every website I am! Mental!
yeah :D tis cool

Apologies, I don't remember our disagreement on the doorstaff thread, but let me assure you there is absolutely no way whatsoever I would state that I was unhappy with a local business on the grounds of disagreeing with someone who appeared to represent it. Honestly, that is so not my bag
The reason I didn't complain when there was that there was nothing specific to complain about at the time; it was more a general air of the venue not being worth it's money.
As to your comment that all you are doing is promoting your new menu here, I reckon that if you are promoting via a *discussion* forum, expect to be discussed. If you don't want that, promote through advertising
Looking at a recent post, stating that the price averaged out at £25 per head, that is far more in line with what I would have expected to pay. I don't know if you've dropped your prices slightly, and I do wish you all the best in your endeavours. However, it remains my belief that a discussion forum is for exactly that, regardless of the unpalatability of comments made
i would still like to know if i can have toast with marmite - that is typically British fayre?:)
U can have me on toast if you MUST Pasty, but i warn you, i am quite expensive.

....but can't you make me it in a pretty pattern and present it it with a sliver of summat poncey? :D

I will lick you clean for any price;)

It could be arranged ...so long as you don't mind me slapping on an equally poncey price tag (and maybe some of that foie gras you like so much). :hihi:

No, you're quite right, it is indeed a discussion forum and I'm happy to discuss and be discussed upon. I am grateful that the forums allow me the opportunity to do just that. It just saddens me when people (and I'm not just refering to yourself) choose to discuss their grievences with Seasons on here first, rather than by perhaps making their comments and suggestions to me or the staff personally. I am by no means going to do a Gordon Ramsay and throw you out of the restaurant, I'm really keen to listen to our customer's feedback because I'm always looking for ways to improve our little Bistro.
As for the food, and I do hope you'll forgive my presumption here but while I understand our cuisine may not be to everyone's taste, we feel it generally represents good value for money because of the time, effort and quality of ingredients that go into producing our dishes (plus, our portions are NOT small!). Everything is cooked from fresh and from scratch (no stock-cubes here!) and we employ a lot of time-honoured, labour intensive cooking techniques, a lot of which hark back to the classic French style. Steve and Andy, our head chefs have over 50 years of restaurant and hotel experience between them including at The Ritz in London and both ran the kitchen of Sheffield's very own Charnwood (R.I.P) at different times.
This doesn't mean everyone is guaranteed to like our grub but it does mean that we are unlike a lot of restaurants in the lengths we go to to turn out food that is just that little bit north of the norm. It also means that we are by no means, over-priced. There are places serving a similar standard of food to us charging 3 times as much ...and we know this because a lot of our regular customers tell us where they've been and why they keep coming back to us!
Anyway, I could go on like that all day but I run the risk of disappearing up my own bottom :gag: hehe
Having said all this, we are currently running an Early Bird menu during the week, offering 2 courses for £11.95 if you dine before 7.30. Additionally, we have recently begun to lower our prices slightly across the board as we feel we would like to make the experience of eating at Seasons accessible for more people, and to that end we are having a mini re-launch in the New Year where you can expect to see lots of new dishes at new lower prices with more emphasis on organic local produce and on real Britsih favourites:
...Sheffield Meat & Tater Pie with Henderson's Gravy anyone?
I have been to Seasons on more than one occassion and the food was great. We went last NYE and was disappointed because there was very few people there and it lacked atmosphere. Will be back tho, just not on NYE.

Haha, fair enough. We had only been open 3 months by New Years Eve 2005 so we weren't that well known. There'll be more this year I imagine! (I'm just hoping they all finish eating early so I can lock up and hit the town! :hihi: )
