Hi everyone

I'm a journalism student at Sheffield uni and am thinking about doing an article on youths around the Gleadless area of Sheffield, in particular the s14 crew.

Any thoughts? Grumbles? Praises? Anything would be greatly appreciated!

Lots of wanna be sheffield crus (think thats what they call themselves) have a site. Da 4M-Cru are quite notorious. ;)

thats the funniest thing I have ever read. s14 crew - i dont' think so. I know some of the kids that think of themselves as this and they are pathetic. just a bunch of kids trying to be tough cos they are in a gang. pathetic. just pathetic. people making them sound like a big hard gang make them feel big. dont do it.

So are you actually from Gleadless then? Not being from there I don't really know much about them do they cause a lot of trouble?

I live at gleadless yes. is so pathetic but sign of times. we used to hang around years ago too when we were teenagers but we never caused bother, smashed windows, robbed people or houses, sprayed graffiti all over the place or generally caused trouble.

You've chosen a good area of the city to do your research! I reckon Gleadless is home to some of the worst youths in the whole of Sheffield. Try talking to some of the vandals who live on Sands Close. :thumbsup:

hiya i live in the s14 area, haven't got a clue who the ''s14 gang'' are but i would imagine they're the idiots that ride around on mopeds all night!! Keep all the street awake most nights and get away with it!!

I have lived on Gleadless valley for 16 years now , my children all grew up here they are respectful and hard working, and have never been in trouble, my son starts university next year. not all valley teens are a bad lot, my neighbour has 4 teens as well and they are also nice decent people. as for s14 crew, i dont know who they are but i think it is just a small minority making this estate look bad ,on the whole there are a lot worse places that you could live, give the valley a break.

I don't think there's any need for that. Why am I a fool just for asking a quesion? I'm not giving anyone credability I'm just trying to find out what people think of them.

I see these people every day and believe me they ARE no-hopers they just want to cause damage and mayhem, Ive seen the same bus shelter glass smashed three times in a week, things like that do give me the right to say NO-HOPERS, The Far Lees vacant pub set on fire three times in three days ,twice in one evening, what would you call them? misunderstood children?

No I wouldnt call them misunderstood children at all, but maybe they are children who have come from very **** backgrounds. So I dont think its fair to just call them 'No hopers', you are gonna get ******s everywhere you go but sometimes with support and stuff people can stop being as bad, iv seen it happen myself. I certainly don't think its gonna help matters by just regarding them as no hopers.

I drive down Blackstock Rd regularly so I don't see more than the immediate surroundings. Are there any halls, community centres or other ameneties for the people who live on this estate? My son lives on Blackstock and he's never mentioned any bother or groups of youths, but he's in his mid-twenties so he would be too old to associate with them. Gleadless and other Estates have the same (unfounded) reputation Attercliffe had when I lived there, there wasn't a lot of trouble from youths then,and we had the same problems i.e. nothing to do. Mind you, that was a time when you could get thrown against a wall for giving any lip to a copper, ah! wonderful times,wonderful times.

geetings to the person with the "good children" like my wife and I you must be a good parent, taking care , and looking after your brood. Unfortunateley.....after living on the valley for 24 years, we were driven off by the so called not so bad youths, along with others. the crunch came when
on New Years day 3years ago, the so called not so bad youths, fractured my son in laws skull, and he had to spend 7 days in hospital. he is in his mid 40's
and st happened to be in the wrong place.Their doings over a long period of time...off road .motor bikes along the pavements and pathways mud balls at the windows fireworks through letter boxes, just a few of the charming things these not so bad boys did and do. There was one of the gang, who came from a so called good family, well dressed very smart, had a very evil streak, and was very very clever never to be in the tick of it,but he was a general
leading the troops..........so all you do gooders on the valley......beware

Why so defensive? The OP specifically asked for information about youths in the Gleadless area. Thats why people are discussing Gleadless. If it had been about Southey, or Parson Cross, or Hillsborough, they would have used examples from these areas?

I Know There Are Decent Folk On The Valley...I Know The Valley Is A Fab Place, No Other Like It.
What Makes It Good, Also Makes It Bad. When We Moved There 24 Years Ago, It Was Like Moving To The End Of The Rainbow, It Was A Fabulous Place To Live. The Design Of He Valley Is It's Downfall.

I've lived there for about 2 and half years now. I have actually never really seen any gangs hanging about, or any trouble. The only problems I've had are with the idiots on the trial bikes late at night. I have seen evidence that these people are about - like grafitti on the building I live in, and the fact that Stagecoach don't even bother replacing the perspex at the tram stop. But thankfully I've never had any trouble myself, and I feel as far as council estates go it's one of the better estates in Sheffield - helped by the fact that a fair proportion of it it now privately owned.

I can not believe that there are such people that would give these "idiot" a "big up". I have lived on gleadless my whole life, they are useless idiots!! any believe me they are not people that want to do well with their lives, all they do is cause havoc, smoke dope and get drunk. don't give them any ideas to be any more bigheaded than they already are
