Hey guys,
Me and my mate are going for a Chinese in town on Friday but I haven't been for one round there in ages so wondered if anyone could give me any ideas.
I normally go to Candy Town on London Rd but we wanna be in town so we can have a drink afterwards.
Cheers in advance!!!!!! :)

ive heard wasabi sabi is nice, or how about all you can eat on west street...you have to be able to eat at least three dishes...that would be a problem would it??? ;-)

OMG I would never go to Wasabi Sabi - I find it very pretentious tbh!

Not sure about an all you can eat, I only have a small appetite :D

the one opposite the plug is called east ocean...i would recommend either that or wong ting which is literally diagonally across from east ocean... :)

I have heard Hui Wei (West St / Glossop Rd) is supposed to be nice.

Golden Dragon was always good, not sure what its like now - they have called it Ting Tong from Tooting or something ridiculous.

Is the Golden Dragon the one on the Moor?

Thanks everyone!
Might just have a look at what restaurants are on the Moor then as that is very central.
What about West Street etc, any round there?

West Street / Glossop Road (next door to Swim Inn).

'Contemporary' Chinese.

There is a review online somewhere, will see if I can find it.

hue wei is garbage not real food a bit plastic, the best in town by far has to be Wong Ting (formerly golden dragon) but completely different but make sure you get the chinese menu with the real top notch food on, the general menu is your usually english tedious food like sweet n sour n black bean sauce.

Its a bit more expensive but a true chinese meal otherwise just have the dim sum menu again amazing!!!!

Wong Ting is excellent (formerly Golden Dragon) and I found the staff welcoming and attentive. (The proof of the pudding is in the number of chinese families who regularly eat there.)

Foodwise, I've always liked Zing Vaa (on the Moor) but have never felt comfortable in there. I always feel the staff are watching me, expecting me to do a runner for some reason.

Which is a shame because, pound for pound I rate their food more than anyone else's.

There's also one across the other side of the Moor - is it Marble Garden? Again, nice food and the service has always been fine when I've been. An added bonus - or maybe not - is that you can operate their karaoke machine by yourself after your meal and make a real plonker of yourself!

(Yes, I've been there....,)

I think it's called the Marble Court.

The owner (Tony?) is a chinese guy, very friendly and yet you want to hear him sing!

I've been here for a couple of birthdays (we're in our late 30s) and have to say it's been spot-on every time.

Plenty of Bee Gees to sing IIRC!!!!

Ha, I was going to say Candytown but that's no good is it?

Shame really, that's the only Chinese restaurant for me in Sheffield!

Wong Ting on Matilda Street is a very good restaurant. The food is great, the decoration and layout are very good and you can tell how good the restaurant is overall because usually it's mostly Chinese people in there.

:D

If you want great and cheap chinese food that's hot and served quickly then go the the Noodle Inn on London road. It's usually packed on thurs, fri, sat nights so you will have to book. It's busy during the day too with loads of chinese people...yes it's not the area you're looking for this time but bear it in mind for another time

Just like to say if you want somewhere nice (atmosphere) Wong Ting is the place. (The Moor)

Hui Wei is rubbish its out to rob english people with pretend food. (West Street)

East Ocean is hit and miss!!!!! (The Moor)

Noodle Inn Above average but too BUSY!!!!!! (London Road)

Noodle Bar Getting Worse........(London Road)

Noodle King better than the above BAR (Eccelscall Road)

Dim Sum as in the name only good for dim sum. (London Road)

Jabu only if you want something different....but nice..(London Road)

Tim Pooh Moor as in the name SH*T.. (London Road)

Candy Town Again Average but not not too bad..(London Road)...

Marble Court chinese Karaoke restaurant..What can i say (The Moor)

Zing Vaa food is good but WHAT SERVICE!!!! (The Moor)

Mei's If you cant find it leave it you havent missed out (Top of the Moor)

Canton Orchard only if your rich and dont mind eating below average food. (Ranmoor)

If i've not named any other its not worth mentioning (about 4 or so).

Hope this helps.....

Good advice from Hypester!!!!!
Have to say it made me smile re Zing Vaa and service!!!!!! Why are they always so bluddy mardy in there!!!!!Once we went as a group from work and we had to leave a bit early and paid our bit by switch...we were still nattering by the time the final bill arrived and they hadn't taken our bit off (was the same guy too who came with the bill!!!) No apology justsome sinister look!!!
Food always fails to disappoint!!

If you're looking for take away Wild Rice is so nice, and they're all organic. No MSGs. They're on London Rd
