As for me, well I'd invent x-ray specs because I have definite perv tendencies.

Oh, and three 100% realistic lady robots for my own personal use (for the same reason as the x-ray specs).

I think i very long pole that you can lengthen to whatever length you require it with a claw on the end would be very handy for loads of things. I often lay in bed thinking i wish i had a long pole to shut my door with cos i cant be arsed to get up. You could also put the TV on with it from wherever youre sat.

GOD DAMN IT IT WOULD BE SO HANDY!

A head mounted pupil tracking dv camera with a full field stereoscopic frame and will film exactly what you are looking at. Or just a stills camera that takes a picture when I press the button on my remote. Possibly even a zoom facility with the image previewed in the right eye, via a tiny projector/mirror system.

It's all available technology, although it would be a little cumbersome at the moment.

A plug-in system either linked to specs or going directly into your head a la Matrix that will feed info. to you immediately upon request. So insects or plants or books or whatever's your thing, you'd have it all right there right then...the knowledge.

We're basically talking about an augmented reality setup, where you see the world through a pair of specs that put useful overlays on for you, or go opaque to act as a computer 'monitor'. This coupled with pupil tracking and a hat mounted array of every kind of sensor imaginable as well as a full spectrum radio transceiver and you'd be in business.

Like x-ray specs, only you could see in the thermal band, or in ultrasonic, view pipes hidden underground and wires in walls. A facial catalogueing system could assist you in recognising people and recalling facts about them.

Combined with speech recognition control, you could look at a half empty bottle of beer across the room, and get its temperature, remaining volume of beer and carbon dioxide concentrations in the air around it to determine whether it would be worth dragging yourself off the floor for.

Yes! I hadn't even considered the people recognition thing...what a marvellous invention that would be. I'm terrible with names and even worse with faces - not a good trait ina community worker :lol:
It could prompt you to remember to ask questions like 'how did that interview go', or 'did you enjoy your holiday' instead of 'who on earth are you?'

Basically for foggy weather, id install some fog lights within the white signs. Similar to the new designed traffic lights where you have many small lights within one which would display a high intensive light. That would make the sign more visable and make the approaching bend clearer. Just that last time I drove home from sheff along the snake it was very foggy and lol I nearly drove into the bend! :blush: but thats not because I was going too quick :) just I cldnt see the sign until I was on it. :?

A gadget to fit between my 'puter and household things so I could:

program the video
turn on the heating
check the contents of the 'fridge
see what my cats are up to (I guess they're sleeping 99% of the time but you never know)
make sure the dishwasher hasn't stuck again and is on a 7 hour rinse cycle

all via the internet

When I was about 11 they had a competition on Blue Peter where you had to write in with ideas for inventions. I told them it would be great if someone invented a device so that you could turn off the TV in the middle of a programme if need be, and have it to come back to later.
Then someone invented betamax and vhs a few years later. So I dont plan on sharing my next invention with anyone!

I will be 38 next month. To you that sounds old, to me it sounds like only about half way along an average lengthed life.

That and the fact that a lot of inventions we now take for granted actually only arrived in the last 20 years.

When I started work in 1983 there were not yet fax machines, we had a telex and electronic typewriters were a bit new and flash. Now look at us!!
