Just wondered if anyone knows of a good church in Sheffield? And if so, why you think it's good. It must be wheelchair accessible with good parking available or nearby.
Thanks

Thanks medusa 26-11-2006, 16:09 You don't state which area of the city you're in green-veggie, or which variety of church you would prefer to worship at. If you're close to the tram (or have access to a car and a blue badge) and C of E, then why not go to the Cathedral? I know a couple of people who have mobility difficulties and worship there- there's very good access. I'm afraid I can't comment on why it's good- since I'm not Christian I'm not really that helpful for that bit I'm afraid. My comments are purely on accessibility, and third hand recommendation from friends. max 26-11-2006, 16:17 You could do no worse than here: Christ Church, Stannington (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~engsheffield/photos/churches/christchstan.htm) if you're Anglican. Philip, the vicar, is a friend of mine and a jolly good sort and the church is spectacular. Or here: Sacred Heart, Hillsborough (http://www.hallam-diocese.com/sacred_heart_hillsborough.htm) if you're a Catholic. Father Shaun too is a friend of mine and it's a lovely church. I'm not religious myself but these two men of the cloth are two of the nicest people I know. On the few occasions I've been I've been made to feel genuinely welcome. muddycoffee 26-11-2006, 16:39 I think that most churches have to be wheelchair friendly very soon due to the recent changes in the law. My parent's church, Hillsborough Trinity Methodist, have had ramps installed for a while and a disabled toilet, and soon they are going to get the builders in and alter the fabric of the building and take some pews out to make it even better for wheelchair users. They even have a pa system for the hard of hearing, as well as a hearing aid loop. |
