That is a great great idea! We should do something like that in South Yorkshire to start with, I think it would be a huge success:thumbsup:

There are loads of places in South Yorkshire that would benefit from something like this! I've always thought there should be more help for animals in need, it's sad that there is so little...

well...lets get the ball rolling!, how about SF pet owners thread organises a 'pet awareness' funraiser?. I would be happy to attend with my huskies, do 'hug a husky', sled dog demo and breed awareness. would be happy (depending on location) to also take some reptiles lizards, frogs, snakes etc and even my very vulgar parrot. sure others would attend with rabbits, piggies, birds, cats, other dog breeds etc. you could even organise a fun pet show/dog show etc. Have a van to help transport stuff etc. could be a great event for sheffield and raise funds for one or more animal charities. any takers?, but certainly count me in

And me! I only have pigs and a hammy at the mo, but the pigs would love to take part! They are very friendly ;)

Seriously, we could do this!

Lindseyw

We could, but how do we decide which causes to help & where could we hold it ?

baileys_mum

My hairless piggies would create havoc :D

LitleMermaid
27-11-2006, 16:19
I am so jealous of those pigs!

Lyndsey, you're right, we need to have a think and discuss details like those:thumbsup:

I'd be willing to help in any way I can, demonstrating how to cut nails sex pigs etc

We also need to make it very very clear that this is no way endorsed by The Sheffield Forum.

dlee

I think a "pet awareness" event, like bluesandtwos suggested is a great idea and would be a good place to start...Once we have done something like this to raise awareness, maybe more people would want to get on board? And I'm sure by then we'd have ideas for future events:)

EDIT: and obviously, anything rasied from the pet awareness day could be used to fund future events:D

How about we focus the event on pet care, with a 'discover dogs' kind of format but with lots of other animals? Is there a council event we could have a marquee at (eg Sheffield Fayre) or perhaps we could approach an establishment such as Heeley city farm and see if we can do a presentation on each pet on a different week?

Lindseyw

Somewhere like Rother Valley would be good.

dlee

That's a good idea cos it's surprising how many people have pets they actually have no idea how to care for, however well meaning they are...

And Rother Valley's good, cos it's near me;) :hihi: Only thing is, the weather is a bit poo at the mo, and will be for a while...

LitleMermaid
27-11-2006, 19:33
Yeah you're over in Donny aren't you baileys_mum? So if you wasn't able to drive by the time it was organised, somewhere central would be better for you:)

get a rescue!!!!!

bluesandtwos
27-11-2006, 21:22
well, we could try and get some of the rescue societies on board, and aim at education: care sheets etc. I think somewhere central would be good from an attendance veiwpoint. hillsborough park???. Late spring would be good from a weather point of view, not too hot or cold.

dlee
27-11-2006, 22:21
yep and like a few have said its going to take a lot of organisation what ever is decided. main focus point been all those animals in need

Strix
27-11-2006, 23:44
Well how about a Rescue/Rehome event day? :)

Who do we need to contact first? The council or the rescues?

dlee
28-11-2006, 07:04
another great idea we could help make people aware of all those animals that need .the little ones too eg rabbits hamsters and sutch

dlee
28-11-2006, 07:08
we could put boxes in supper markets for donations of pet foods and blankets .that would help out the little rescue centre, sjumble sales after christmas when everyone wants to clear all the stuff out they dont want to make way for the new they have got.
we could evan try and put collection boxes in schools for pet food and other unwanted pet related items.

The donation box is a great idea, theres a few of those in Morrison's at Halfway already and they were quite full when I went in last night, don't really know about the rest of the supermarkets...if we could get hold of some of those boxes to push money in, I would ask at work if I could put it next to the till  Not sure if I'd be allowed, as we already have one for a different charity but surely it's worth a try, if you don't ask, you don't get do you?:D
