Hi
mm, i got loads of videos that i taped over 20 years, films, sport whatever.
How easy is it to transfer to DVD, all that i have & how much does each DVD hold.
Can i stick 2 films on 1 disk for example.
Can i buy blank DVD'S & what are the options on size?
Also, where can i get a copier, i guess they exist.
Any advice appreciated

1 this postll prolly get deleted
2 i have a dvd recorder which cost about £80, records and plays + & - discs aswell as plays avi / mpg files and jpgs aswell as the obligatory mp3s and cds etc
3 a disc can record as many files as the disc can hold so if the disc can hold 4 hours you can record 2 2 hour films (you can also select the record mode, just like a video recorder HQ, LP, SQ etc) - higher quality less space.
i normally buy my dvds / cds from either bigpockets.co.uk or maplins - normally get 100 for about £15 / £20
So i where can i get a DVD recorder & this can copy stuff from VHS to DVD yeh!
How long does it take, do i have to watch all VHS stuff whilst transfering.
I assume transfering isn't illegal, as one day all i want to watch i wwon't be able to get on VHS which i like, but i got so much on VHS i want to maybe stick on DVD.

Strictly speaking anything you've recorded off broadcast TV is a bit naughty (copyright and whatnot), but there are kits available from places like amazon for recording VHS to your computer, and then onto DVD (providing you have a DVD recording drive).
Expect an outlay of £100 minimum for decent kit that won't give up halfway through!
Apparently it's illegal to tape stuff onto a VHS tape on a VCR! :loopy:
Eh?! If that's the case why do Curry's et al sell Video recorders designed for that very purpose?!
Also, if it's illegal to copy music, why do they sell blank CDs which are specifally designed for copying music onto? :loopy:
I have tried this - bought a dvd burner/hard drive recorder to allow me to transfer my VHS onto DVD - does it work? Does it eck as like!!!! Get copy protection messages and thats yer lot!
All the films I have bought - junk!!!!
Pigged off!

All commercial tapes have copy protection to prevent you copying them, seems quite simple, really...
It's illegal to tape stuff and *keep* it, strictly speaking. It's a tremendous grey area, but the principle is that it is licensed for broadcast and not for any other media when you're taping it. Commercial tapes are licensed for use on that specific media.

LOL
thats what copy protections for
works fine for stuff youve taped off tv etc and older vids that dont use macrovision etc
saying that you can buy a gizmo that sits between both and removes the protection :P
expensive tho
