View Full Version : Hmmm...rainy walks, no fun..and a muddy bum!
jaspersarah 25-11-2006, 15:55 I have been 'putting off' going for walkies as I was supposed to be 'working' this afternoon... (although I've just spent 30mins on here..doh!) and now it is raining, Raa!! I wish I wasn't so easilly distracted!!!
I wonder if the dogs will notice if they go out later....??!!:hihi: I got soaked this morning (and I managed to fall on my face whilst trying to pick up poo from up a grass bank - I looked a right state!) The things we do for our dogs! Jasper (one of my 2 border terriers) just looked at me then dropped his ball infront of me as if to say "come on...stop messing about and get on with it!"
tinkabel 25-11-2006, 16:48 LOL i find when its raining, the dog doesn't like being out that much anyway so we have a quick run (quick, who am i kidding lol!!) round the park next to our house as opposed to a walk. Can't see it working much longer though as he's getting far too heavy for his extendable lead and i wouldn't want to be pulled over in a muddy field!!
amandakm 25-11-2006, 16:54 The state of the weather doesn't even enter two of our dogs heads, Molly colliex and Pip the Papillon are always rering, Rosie lurcher hates the rain, so this morning at 7am we were tearing round after two as usual, while Rosie lurcher kept heading back to the car, we were absolutely soaked, does it end there, no because Pip loves to roll i mud, pooh anythibng in fact, as he is a fluff monster he needs a bath after every wet walk, which he hates.
kittenta 25-11-2006, 19:01 My dog won't even go through the door if it's raining, she would rather not go walkies. I end up having to push her out of the back door just to do a pee and i'm lucky if she doesn't do it on the doorstep, then she flies back in
oh dear Sarah, Sarah, Sarah - I wish I'd been there, only to help you up... of course :hihi:
I saw your username and thought 'haha I know who that is'
Well glad to see you here anyway, welcome to the pets forum and I'll look forward to hearing more of you ...
ps, do you know if you're coming to agility tomorrow or not, yet
A bit of wet weather doesn't bother Brude - he loves mud, but luckily we chose a breed with one of those short coats that comes up all shiny new with only a quick rub with a towel :P
Besides.... he only needs a good run out once a week, and a 40min - 1hr walk half a week later, so it's a bit easier for us to pick the weather we venture out in
Oh, and we own nearly every item ever made in Goretex to keep the people dry on any horribly muddy walks - Gaitors are essential for beagle walking :hihi:

Tell me about it!
The other day I went flying down a muddy bank and landed on my ar5e, had to walk home covered in mud all down my back, bum & legs!
But the worst was on the way back from the vets with Gadget last week... having just been told "make sure he keeps his paw clean & dry" I put one of those useless 'Mikki' boots on him. Halfway home it was absolutely pouring with rain, and the Mikki boot was slipping off. I bent down to sort it out just as a lorry sailed past, causing a giant puddle next to me to be splashed completely over me. Gadget and I were like drowned rats!
jaspersarah 28-11-2006, 14:10 Oh no - lorries I'm sure they do it on purpose!!
I love walking in the rain. You only ever see other dog owners and joggers! Not sure who are the craziest... it's a close thing!
In the dark days when I used to have to spend hours plucking up the courage to take my dogs out (one was very aggressive, and handling both together was a nightmare), I would sometimes wait if it looked like rain and go out when it was tipping it down.
I knew I'd be unlikely to see anyone, so the walk had a higher chance of being stress-free.
I'm not sure my dogs shared my enthusiam. My older one used to look at me as if to say, "Why didn't we go out earlier??". But she knew I was a simple soul and was happy to go wherever I did, just to make sure I found my way home again! She knew I'd never be as wise as she was...
WallBuilder 28-11-2006, 14:43 Max isn't that fond of the rain but just loves rivers. streams, lakes. puddles [the muddier the better] I've now got a collection of towels for dog use only by the back door so he get's a thorough rub down before he can gho and shake in the middle of the lounge, I'm sure my light fitting has still got some mud splatters on it from a prrevious occasion.
