Just an urgent request for witnesses for the theft of a RED DUAL SUSPENSION MOUNTAINBIKE, which was stolen from outside the Burger King/Whistlestop shop in Sheffield Station Concourse at approximately 9.30 pm last WEDNESDAY NIGHT.

I was in the Whistlestop shop for a few minutes and had left the bike unlocked, but found it missing when I emerged from the shop minutes later.

A young blond female, whose name is Vicky, and who didn't look suspicious, asked me if that bike that two men had taken was mine, and I said yes!
From what Vicky said, the two men were white, but she gave little other description other than that one was 'slow' or lethargic, and they had been hanging around the concourse since earlier on (Possibly since at least 9pm).

They had escaped over the station footbridge, and out at the tramtracks end (as confirmed by other witnesses), possibly past the tramstop with the bike, and most likely together on foot, as the bike was in an unroadworthy condition (The chain keeps coming off and the cranks are damaged, and I was taking it in for repair next week). It is possible that they DUMPED the bike nearby, possibly in the wastground on the slope below Park Hill Estate (Where I live myself), but I have yet seen no trace of it or any items from it (Including a white cycling helmet, a D-Lock, and a small red PVC bag in a blue carrier bag which was on the back). The bike was a cheap dual suspension mountainbike, with red frame and black handlebars, and some silver gaffa tape on the saddle and the gearshift. It also has an aluminium back rack, and no mudguards.

If anyone has found it, will they please PM me.

If anyone knows 'Vicky' the woman who was a witness, and gave a description to rail staff of the thieves, and who took my number to ring me back, I would also want them to get in touch with me. I had to get a train to work in a club in Rotherham that night, so I had to report the theft to the Transport Police the following day, but Vicky said she would contact me back re. the description of the thieves.

The Police reassured me that the whole station concourse (as well as the footbridge and the Supertram tracks) are covered by CCTV, so the thieves will have been caught ON CAMERA.

The bike itself is probably of NO monetary value to the thieves, but it is of great personal value to myself, as I need it to get to work, etc.

Hope someone can help!

Keep your eyes on eBay. A colleague of my gf had his bike stolen and found it being sold piece by piece on eBay. The Police are on it.

Thanks, Richard.

Just had a call from the cops that they HAVE EVIDENCE OF THE THIEVES ON CCTV.

At least they are well on the case.

Quite frankly, as the bike was in a broken down state, hardly working, it is likely to have been abandoned somewhere around the Park/Castle College/ Shrewsbury Rd area...

No more news as yet, but I spotted a thread about some suspicious youths hanging around on Myrtle Road (Up Manor Top), interfering with cars.

If the police identify the bike theft culprits from the CCTV at the station, maybe they might well tally with the suspects seen at Myrtle Road...

Whoever took the bike, I well suspect that it will not be the first trouble they have been in!

hope you'll get this sorted and get your bike back. (and maybe learn from it )

Maybe she was their accomplice and was slowing you down, allowing the thieves to get away?

No, I don't think she was; she was a well-dressed working woman, and anyway, what would she have to gain from the theft of a CHEAP mail-order bike which was currently in a totally unfit, unroadworthy condition (Bottom Bracket and chain neading major repair or replacement)?

I am still certain that the thieves must have swiftly DUMPED it, after finding that it was in such a condition (It needed shop repair that you can't just do at home), so PLEASE, if anyone has FOUND, or 'been offered' a Red suspension Mountain Bike in a poor state of repair, I would very much LIKE IT BACK!!!!

If it's a cheapo one, just go and buy another FULLY WORKING one.

Thanks, Scarby; I'll get another cheap one -they only last about a year or so anyway..!

However, the whole point about catching the thieves is to teach them a lesson that they may run, but they CAN'T hide...
