Is this in any way in relation to this (http://uk.news.yahoo.com/040902/80/f1s5t.html)?
LMAO! It could be ET trying to phone home...
Although having said that to be honest I doubt it'll turn out to be an alien signal, not aliens in THAT sense anyway... I don't think we're about to recieve invaders from Mars or owt.

No connection with Bowie at all, I'm afraid. As someone else has said, it's from the 1978 War Of The Worlds album by Jeff Wayne.
The singer was Justin Hayward (of the Moody Blues) and the song is called The Eve Of The War.
You may be confusing it with the Bowie song Life On Mars?

Justin also wrote and sang the song "Forever Autumn", which used a tune from War of the Worlds.

"the chances of anything coming from mars" was deffo from Jeff Wayne's WotW.
And yes the vocalist IIRC was Justin Hayward, from the Moody blues, and yes, he also sang on "Forever Autumn"
(I know David Essex was the vocalist on another of the tracks on WotW, so he *might* be the vocalist on that track...)
I must get my old albums out and have a listen to the WotW
The Bowie track, "life on Mars", only has lyrics about Mars which go "is there life on Mars?" not "chances of anything..."

The chances of anything coming from Mars
Are a million to one, he said (ahh, ahh)
The chances of anything coming from Mars
Are a million to one, but still, they come...
