Hi guys.

I'm (rather shamefully) in need of some advice.

My Spanish Lodger, Lara, has a couple of friends over from Spain. They arrive today and are leaving on Monday. She has asked me what they could do locally to fill their days. They don't have access to a car, so they will be reliant on public transport - we're just on the tram route, so this shouldn't be a problem. The issue is, despite having lived in this city for five years now, I am clueless when it comes to dealing with tourists! Most of the people that come and visit me are my peers, so it's just nights out down the pub for us!!

I need a few decent suggestions for them, be they cultural, rural, whatever.

Help?!

NB - I'll be sending her a link to this thread, so if you're Spanish and more comfortable writing in Spanish - go for it!

depends what they are into? theres plenty of galleries about if they have an interest in art, take them swimming if they like to do that, a nice meal somwhere, trip out into the sticks to show how nice our countryside is (easily done by bus) take them to pitsmoor to show the the "hood" :), maybe a gig one night? plenty of stuff to do mate.

Maybe take em to Endcliffe park or down Eccy rd / Hunters bar for a cuppa? Its quite a nice walk.

Intento que consigue un tren a Leeds. ¡Es un lugar mucho más interesante, más moderno y agradable ser que Sheffield! ¡Y cualquier persona que discrepa es un hijo de un burro!

Personally I think I'd stick them on a bus out into the Peak District for one of the days, and have a look to see if there's something you can take them to at one of the theatres in town, which you can combine with an afternoon of galleries and the like for another day. Weston Park museum would be another one on my list too.

Thanks for the advice so far guys.

I should point out - I'm working tomorrow day so not around for them, and I'm going to Liverpool for the match on Saturday, so I'm only around for them on Sunday.

Keep those ideas coming though :)

I was thinking of taking them to Bar 23 for a proper Sunday lunch, but I think they're taken by the 'buy a pint get a free sunday lunch' deal at the Priory. It is good, but it's not like having a proper big Sunday Lunch.

You notice I managed not to make a joke about roasting....:hihi:

So far, plenty of good ideas.

I've just ad a thought though - with me not being around, it would be helpful if you could give rough instructions as to how they can get to the more remote places, buses, trains etc.

I realise it's asking a lot of you, but I'd be very grateful :)

272 bus - runs right up the valley and back again. Dont make em mess about with trains, as none of the stations are anywhere near the villages they serve. They run about every hour as well.

Incase you're reading this Lara, this is to get you to the Peak district.

Sorry - yes, the 272 takes in Hathersage, Bamford (bottom of the village though), Bradwell, Hope and Castleton.

A Peak Explorer ticket might be worthwhile if doing other things that day too:
