DQs is proper good mate, just what Sheffield needs. Not sure about their door policy though youll have to ask them, I think Cargo and matt_steer are the ones in the know.

DQ has to be one of the best venues in Sheffield at the moment, not just for the quality space, lighting, visuals and sound but the wide variety of nights they are hosting at the moment is great for the city. You’ve only got to look at the line ups for the next 2 Fridays to see the quality acts coming to Sheffield:

Friday 24th Circus Tour: Yousef, Justin Long: Residents Kristoph & Kassien

Friday 1st BUG: Fun Loving Criminals DJ set

I agree with the variety of nights but the actual space is awful, or it ws the last time i went, a really strange layout and no actual dancefloor..........

Wouldn't agree with the latter point. Think the space can and does work really well. There's a pretty clearly defined dancefloor, but I have seen the whole room dancing on quite a few occasions.

Aw thanks guys :) DQ's an independent venue, bit like a night club, bit like a bar... It looks like this. (http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k36/dqsheff/crowd.jpg)

We were nominated for best new bar and best cocktail bar in this years exposed awards, we also had three nominations in the best club night category (meaning five in total, fair play we didn't win any but that's more nominations than anywhere else in Sheffield).
We love Sheffield, especially Sheffield music, we've had Milburn, Arctic Monkeys, The Reverend, Little Ze and loads more here (if you're into these bands come on Saturday for threads, gas club playing live, if you haven't heard them, they're amazing).
We've also hosted some awesome names from the world of dance music, such as James Zabiela, Deep Dish, Elite Force, Graham Sinden, Nicky Blackmarket and others..

It's run by myself and all our friends, all we do is throw open invite parties! If we charge on the door it's just to cover costs for DJs or bands on the night, we're only a 350 capacity venue but it means that we get an awesome atmosphere down here. FLC will be incredible, been sending tickets all over the country, Yousef tomorrow night too people!

Any questions gimme a PM or email me at matt@dqsheffield.com, or check out the weblink in my signature for more listings info..

(anyone with any more comments please post em, I like to have opinions to work with..and yes, I am strict on age  )

The place is awful. It is very seedy and rife with drugs. I would stay clear if i were you!

Ha ha, pretty unfounded statement (drugs or not, seedy's the last thing you could describe it as).

Although that may be a selling point for some people :D (not any of us though, eh?).

I am positive. The upstairs area of a near-deralict set of buildings (mad greek) in what seems like the middle of nowhere, down from west one!

You are going to be pro-DQ Cargo, as you have something to do with it.

I am giving my opinion, as a neutral, and saying that a combination of things make it very seedy. The unfriendly, thug-like bouncers for 1. The characters that frequent the bar, remains of drugs in the cubicals in the toilets etc etc.

Sorry if that doesnt please you, but its true.

Id much prefer places like halcyon or crystal.

Im sorry but as a neutral how can you define a bar / club as a seedy hole and its not even been open for more than 6 weeks. Drugs can be found in the trendiest of clubs and establishments but does that determine it to be seedy. Would you say Fabric / China Whites (London) is seedy? and god knows how many drugs are in there not to mention the Gatecrasher days of old and Love2be. Halcyon, along with the forum is not as cool as DQ lounge as it lost its coolness when the townies invaded back in 2003-4. Its quite obvious that you have had some personal beef with the bouncers as to say they are all thugs is totally unfair. I would rather them to be tough on door policies than let in any idiot. I do not condone drugs but lets face it, it is and probably always will have an effect in British dance music club culture. I suggest you go to Kingdom, oops you will find drugs there i'm afraid.:loopy:

Ha ha. Took this personally dj4321? You dont DJ there do you? ;-)

Are you saying it is impossible for a place to be seedy when it is only 6 weeks old? I think you are wrong.

I wasnt saying the place was seedy JUST because of the bouncers. I said they are one of the things that make it feel that way. You can go to bars like 23 and tell the difference between the doormen.

As for the halcyon, id agree with you to an extent. It did lose its appeal around 2004, but this year it has gone back to the "good old days" and has a great atmosphere.

I also agree with you on the drugs point. But like i said, that is just a contributing factor, not the main issue.

Thanks for your recommendation of Kingdom. If my only choice was between there and DQ, i would take you up on it, and that is saying something!!! But, fortunately, it isnt.

lol well im sure the club will be just perfect for next friday :) . And thug bouncers are cool coz last time i went out one even had to apologise to me . Oh that was good!

Any how yer drugs are just a way of normal everyday life. Unfortunatly they can upset many people but its down to the people themselfs who do them if they want to **** with them. These days it seems more eazyer to pop a few pills than spark up a joint!! :: Crazy !! :: Just because you can see and smell drugs gives people the idea that its bad!

Any how thanks for everyones opinions. I have spoken to the gaffer of the club who sounds like a really nice guy so im sure nothing will go two wrong that night. Espech when you do alot of advertising and get alot of people to buy tickets.

Thank you all :D

We use the same door firm.. Just so you know.. I apologised to you when you spoke about this last time.. I thought the issue was that you couldn't get in? How many times have you been here to make such a damning statement? As for drugs, we have a strict policy on anyone caught with drugs here. Fair play though, an opinion is an opinion and I'm sorry you feel that way.. Everyone else, thanks for the support..

Hiya, we offer doubles for singles on our house spirits, that means a 50ml of Smirnoff, Havana, Bulleit, Malibu, Tanqueray, Archers or Baileys is just £3 including mixer.. All night every night.. We have beer offers on other nights too..
Generally people stay here for the nights we have (including Threads. Razor Stilletto, Circus, Future Funk, Bass Bar, BUG and others).. Come down, give us a try!

Peace guys! :)

I have been twice. Once when the doormen had attitude and decided not to let myself and a friend in due to "members only". I then went a week or so later to give it another go. Maybe i caught the place on a bad night or something then. After your comments above, i will give it another go and see if i was wrong. Cheers matt

No I do not dj there for your information, however it is a desirable place to dj. Your definition of Seedy seems to be very confusing. I always thought a seedy place was somewhere that was quite poor and tacky, bad interior, very dark lighting, full of undesireable people. Its funny because I went down last night and it was full of people that used to go to the Halcyon and forum back in there glory days. I even saw some regulars from Crystal.
For anyone that is reading this; please ignore Woodseats because he obviously is bitter about the doormen. The music is old skool and the clientelle is strictly over 21. It is one of Sheffields coolest nights in terms of good atmosphere, style and sophistication.
Even if i did dj there, i would gladly tell the truth as some people may find dq a bit pretentious. Remember we are in Sheffield for god sakes not the West End (London)

Went on Saturday and had a top night.
Better than other late bars in Sheffield IMO. I'd agree with commentors who have said it's like the Forum used to be years ago when it first opened. Nothing like it is now. Played a good mix of music. I danced to newer stuff like Pete Bjorn and john and older stuff like Too much too young:thumbsup:

DQ's okay. I've been a few times when they've turned some of my mates away because they said they couldn't go in unless they took their jewellery off, which kinda puts me off going.

Matt S
11-01-2008, 01:37 PM
Aw thanks guys, Deano is in charge now and he'll obviously do a cracking job :) I'll let everyone know if/when i get a new venture on the go... Also, the jewelery issue is just one of them, if taking a gold chain off is too much to go into a venue then they probably won't want you in anyway... Big love :) xx

AlBal
11-01-2008, 01:40 PM
But why should they have to take off their jewellery - it wasn't gold either, it was silver.

Matt S
11-01-2008, 01:56 PM
Because the policy of the venue is no chains, it discourages certain elements from going in, as "look at me in my big chain, I am well gangsta" types who refuse to remove them are generally aggressive and not into the appropriate music scene anyway... and if an undesirable customer is being knocked back for jewelry and you and your friends leave the venue wearing chains, it makes the doormen look like twats doesn't it...

AlBal
11-01-2008, 03:01 PM
they weren't big chains though, one had a small silver curb chain under his t-shirt. i do understand what you mean about the big bling, i just think its a bit harsh for general jewellery.

Most bars in town don't even bother to play music so they don't have to pay PRS. DQ has always stood out as brave champion of musical styles un-supported by most venues of the type. That reason alone makes it indispensible for Sheff.

Well said, remembering that it is (for the past couple of years) the home of the monthly RAZOR STILETTO!
