Is this a first on sheffieldforum.co.uk??

Well, since certain elements here are intent on whinging about bus drivers, and picking up on anything a bus driver might do, from the minor things like scratching his/her head thus taking one hand off the wheel whilst driving, to the gravely serious matters like indulging in a .....cigarette!!!! on his/her legally entitled break...

It's only fair then that a kindly action by a Bus driver deserves a special Bus Drivers thread too!

tonight, whilst on the Bus in Ecclesfield, on her own, [the 17 yo girl] saw the same teenagers at the bus stop who, seeing her started shouting how they were going to give her a black eye to match the first one, kill her etc and she'd better get off the bus. There was only her on the bus, and the bus driver kindly drove round the block [out of his own rest time] to change his numbers, and did another loop.

I was just wondering when the next Bus Drivers thread was going to pop up before I logged on I even thought about starting one myself.

You need to be careful here. It is not a case of whether the driver is on a legitimate break whilst smoking but rather where he smokes. As I pointed out in a previous post smoking on a bus (whether on a break or not) is considered a particulary serious offence by the Traffic Commissioners, and some drivers have been sacked for it in the past and lost their licence.
