I think I have had enough of my 9-5 drudge and would like to set up an online pet store does anybody know how to go about this and what I would need to do. Any advice would be greatly accepted and all forummers would get discounts. please pm me for initial contact.
Please bare in mind I would be starting from scratch and dont even have a website yet. So if someone has the experience and wishes to help or go into partnership please contact me.

Strix dont know if this thread would need to be moved but as its about pet supplies and I would be offering members discounts I thought it would be ok here.

One bit of advice, don't forget the little pets. Most online shops only do dogs ad cats. I own a lot of guinea pigs ;)

I think Savbaby beat you to it CV ;)

looks like it's a goer though - people are spending more and more on their pets

a top tip though - decide what market you're targeting, as not all 'pet owners' are the same ;) are you going to be an exotics supplier, a pet essentials supplier, or are you going to supply all those outfits and other 'accessories' that people like to spend wads of cash on 'spoiling' their animals? Are you going to stock 'show equipment'?

PS - your thread's fine where it is

i have been selling things on ebay and have not listed half the stuff i need to! if you are wanting more info pm me, i have set up an ebay shop and if it was fully stocked it would be much better. I have not really tried to advertise much at the moment as not listed everything! its just so tedious..

Well to be honest I wanted to sell thing for all pets including reptiles, rodents and the usual cat and dog stuff. At the moment I am looking round for some stock at our local cash and carrys and places like that.

If you can, offer free P&P for orders over a certain amount. thats one thing that always attracts me to buy online. Website?, you need web hosting and a nice catchy addy, both incur an annual fee. can point you in the right direction, but by no means an expert. still learning with my own site.

Not sure about the business side of things, but I may be able to help with the website side of things.

I know this is going to sound pedantic, but it is important ;)

make sure you use a spell checker and grammar checker when constructing a website

I have not ordered from sites where attention to detail has been lacking. If somebody is slapdash enough to think 'that'll do', then how are they going to treat my order, or my credit card information? :(
