Things that keep me awake at night.

One of our cats, Jarvis.
Why didn't they get Gandalf to magic that ring in to the volcano.
Why there were no seat belts on any version of the USS Enterprise - starship, not aircraft carrier.
Eating too much, too late.

Our very own ghost, 'Broder Rus' is the ghost of a monk who haunts the old abbey where I live. He was a right evil bugger and poisoned the sacred spring that the other monks drew their water from. And all because he was fond of a drop or two, and was a bit of womaniser.

In the end, the other monks got together and hung him, and that's the reason he comes back now and again.

People slamming doors in the petrol station next door, people walking through the car park shouting, which wakes the dog up and starts him barking, cars screeching around the corner and people returning from the nightclub to pick up their car that they've conveniently parked right under my bedroom window. City Living....

Chavs screaming and shouting.
Chavs smashing the bus stop windows or phone box.
Worrying about when my student loan will be in my bank account as I wont have any money at the start of term.

Tooth ache :( and knowing that there's a 17 week waiting list to see the consultant at the Charles Clifford !

My son - who talks, no shouts, in his sleep as a running commentary on whatever dream he's having. Last night he was playing on his own dream team at Real Madrid !

Our cat - she has a strange internal clock that tells her to sleep like the dead from 8.00pm until 1.30am when she has to wake the entire house up by meowing at the top of her feline voice or walking across my head until I get up and let her out!

Its no wonder I am tired and grumpy!

worries about the future, or more optimisticaly, plans.

the so's habit of talking in her sleep.

the streetlight outside, and the sound of buses/cars.

the thought of getting up for work.

the consideration that after we die there is nothing else.

infinity.

emergent properties of rule based systems.

sci-fi and the possible future.

Sheesh, i should just stay up longer.

It's funny, because silence keeps me awake. I've lived all my life close to the motorway, and through the night you can hear cars and lorries going past. I often wonder what cargos they're carrying, and where people have come from, where they're going.

When I went to the Lake District a few weeks ago, I couldn't sleep because it was too quiet.

Strange.

Work..... As I work nights regular.
Its a question of what keeps me awake in the day.
Sunshine, street noise, vacuum cleaner and the kids.
Thank God the return to school's round the corner.

OK.....

Something new to keep me awake at night - someone in Walkley is playing booming bass music at just the volume needed to hear as a dull thumping....

Sunday and Monday nights......

Bloody annoying!

Ok my turn..

How about realising that its midnight..you've got to be awake again in 6 or so hours...can't sleep and a horrible feeling you may feel slightly 'worse for wear'..and its only monday!

How about sharing tips on how to fall asleep...Apart from the obvious one of turning my computer off..?
