Yes I did it in London about 7 years ago. It is very laborious. I ended up opening the post as it was more fun. You meet some good people though

Apparently you have to sit a test at the interview with multiple choice questions on english grammar, any tips on how i can revise online a little its been a while since i did this kind of stuff!!

What papers are you applying to mark? I have been approached to mark edexcel Religious Studies papers but I am a head of RE in a school. Surely you have to be qualified in the subject area?

It is marking Geography A Level papers, all you need to do it is a degree in the relevant subject, scary really!

I used to work there supporting examiners on ePEN, the system you use. It was a nightmare at first but after a few cycles the technical problems seem to be sorted out now and the examiners I spoke to got into it after a while. As you generally only mark part of the paper and not the whole paper eg. question 3 and question 7, for instance, it can be a little tedious but from what I understood the pay was good, you do it in your own time and basically you can do it from anywhere in the world. SO go and sit on a beach somewhere, we had one examiner on a boat off the coast of France!

The assesments you mention are mainly to discuss how you will mark the paper and that everyone is reading from the same script to ensure consistency across examiners.

It was pretty easy, you do an online english comprehension test, read articles and then answer questions on it. If you score highly enough you have a brief interview outlining your skills and how you intend to do the marking i.e at home in silence! Then you hopefully get offered the position! I was in and out in just over an hour so I would not worry! Ar you going to Tavistock Square? :hihi:  :hihi:  :help:

how's everybody doing with this? did the interviews/tests all go well? I was thinking of looking into this myself, but wonder a) whether I'd be qualified (I have a good English degree, but it's been 10 years since I taught GCSE English, and it was only for a year, to post-16s) anf b) whether it's too late to apply. Anyone have any idea?

It is too late to apply for this set of exams but they will need more people later on, I think you would be qualified to mark papers but not as a graduate marker as it specifically asks for recent graduates...worth asking them! :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:

My meeting lasted 2 hours only! I am busy marking in the evenings but its a very dodgy mark scheme - seems up to me completely what an answer is worth and its a bit scary!
