Does somebody know where it is possible to study German for teenager (13 years) here in Sheffield? The Sheffield College refuse to enrol due to "young age". Also there are only French and Spanish at school. Private lessons with qualified teacher could be an option (preferably with native speaker) but how to find a good teacher?

Will the school not provide anything at all?

At my school we had one pupil who wanted to study Italian, so we arranged a weekly video link between our school and a school which held an Italian class.

It didn't cost anything because all schools in our borough have ISDN video conferencing as standard. It's great, as we can link up with classes around the world, see and chat in real-time. You can even contact the ISS and Space Shuttle (obviously by prior arrangement with NASA!)

I was in the same position a few years ago (well, in 1987). I wanted to do German, but my school only did French. The night school said I was too young (I was 14). My headmaster wrote a letter to the admissions stating that it was necessary for me to learn German as I wanted to study languages at university and would not fulfil the entry requirements with only one langiage. That did the trick.
If that doesn't work, there are always plenty of German and Austrian exchange students at the universities. Get in touch with them and try private tuition.
Viel Glück!

King Edward VII School do evening classes in German - targetted on adults, but they seem pretty flexible, and the classes are good. (I started last year.) The classes start in the week beginning October 4th. The telephone number is 229 6573.
