I have such fond memories of going on a Friday night. mikeyh 27-11-2006, 19:42 I never went to the Youth Club, but I do have happy memories of the Saturday Night Dances every second week which I went to from 1959 till 1963.I grew up living on the Meads. angelamary 28-11-2006, 09:03 Yes i also went to the church dances, it was so good, and felt very grown up, must have been all of 15, i went from about 61 to 64. Did you go to Jordanthorpe Girls School? I was their when it first opened. oldrowley 28-11-2006, 17:10 Great memories of the Saturday night dances at Norton Church Hall circa 1960. My mates and I used to travel across from Ecclesall, as it was such a good night out. Remember meeting and dating a lovely brunette there called Hilary Rigby who worked at Cole Brothers when it was on Fargate. Does anyone remember the ballroom dancing classes run at the hall by the Saynor's (I think that was their name - maybe brother and sister). mikeyh 28-11-2006, 21:31 I would have loved to go to Jordanthorpe Girls but I was a boy. However my mother Mrs Hughes taught English there for several years. Colley76 24-12-2008, 12:13 I went to Norton Youth Club between 1960 & 63?. Also went to the church hall dances. Yes, every Monday & Friday, summer & winter plus the Saturday dances. Those were happy days indeed. I must stop writting to this thread or I will drown in terminal nostalgia, so many memories, names that I had forgotten keep coming back. Still we can't go back, so we must go forwards. Those of us from that era who have survived the working years, should now dedicate ourselve to causing as much worry to our children as we did to our parents. Your only old once so enjoy it while you can. Resolve to grow old disgracefully. Nice to have met you again. angelamary 23-01-2009, 14:29 Yes when my two children (son 30 daughter 29) are getting ready to hit the town, i often relapse to the day,s when i was doing the same. We wish they could find partner,s now tho, and flee the nest. tinachenn 16-06-2009, 23:06 my dad , Mick Bullifent, lived in norton in the 50s-60s and went to norton free and then on to Rowlinson.
