Wouldnt take any risks. I had hepititis and typhoid. Also took malaria tablets.
Ended up having the runs though. Worst I have ever had.
Dont let that put you offf!!!
Unless you intend going into the rain forest you don't need a thing.
The rain forest is cool though
how do you know that tony? have you been? without jabs?

You want Hep A, at the least. Also be up to date with tetanus etc. also take a proper (50% DEET) insect repellent and mozzy net and use em.
cheers phan, i gotta ring my GP tomorrow anyway!!

Good travel insurance is always important though because you're more likely to break your leg than contract Dengue Fever ;) Check out the Foreign Office website (http://www.fco.gov.uk/servlet/Front?pagename=OpenMarket/Xcelerate/ShowPage&c=Page&cid=1007029390590&a=KCountryAdvice&aid=1013618385857) for a bit more info.
It's a modern civilised country, albeit with third world poverty in some places. If you stay in the tourist areas (please don't, you might as well go to Spain) and the main towns and cities you'll have nothing to worry about As a tourist the nearest that you are likely to get to the rainforest is Los Tres Ojos (http://www.showcaves.com/english/car/showcaves/ThreeEyes.html) in Santo Domingo. However, if you do get the chance to get a local guide and a taxi for the day, take it. You'll see DR for real, and probably end up in someones house having dinner! Don't forget to check out the Lighthouse (http://home-3.tiscali.nl/~pjetax/country/santo_domingo.html) - Britisher Architect :)
