No idea, but I know the location of what claims to be Sheffield's most haunted pub if you are interested in "other haunted places".

I've seen many monsters in a the club down town called flares. But be warned I have tried to take a picture with my phone and it bust.

Sheffield's alleged most "haunted" pub is the Carbrook Hall in Attercliffe, just up the road from Don Valley Stadium.

Hi Pieman Me. I think Norton Hall is at the back of Graves P.ark. I am sure they turned it into luxcury appartments a few years a go.

I believe that Norton Hall is the old vicarage just opposite Norton Church, as for other haunted places, try, as well as Carbrook Hall; Thundercliffe Grange, The Radio Sheffield buildings, Beauchief Abbey. There are loads more...

I worked in Thundercliffe Grange as the night security guard oct-dec 1978. (I was a computer studies student at Sheffield Poly as was). Yes, it's haunted - I didn't believe it until after I left, as I was told there was ghost on the staircase. I thought this was the main one in the building and used to check it all the time, being cynical, and scoffed - "nothing there". Then I used to go down the kitchen corridor and after a few metres walking I would be running with fear to get to the end.

After I left I told the person who said it was haunted that it was rubbish, I never saw anything on the main building staircase. "It's not that one,", he said, "it's the servants' staircase into the kitchen corridor that's haunted. There's a grey lady repeatedly falling down the stairs". A shiver went down my spine, as they say.

A previous security guard got so terrified he called the control room to be picked up and when the car arrived he was so scared to go through the house he went out the window of the security office.

Yep this is correct, it has a gate house which at one time was used as a morgue when the hall was used as a Hospital several times during it`s life.

There are former stables and coachmans quarters to the side of it and my friend used to live in these during the sixties.

Norton Hall was an Auxillary Hospital to Jessops Hospital in the sixties and seventies and cared for the Ladies.

After that it became a private Clinic for Ladies called Beechwood Clinic, terminations etc.

My Mum was a nurse there for years before it privatised and she used to tell me about the hauntings and ghost there in the form of a nurse in old dress.

Apparently Florence Nightingale was in attendance there during the Crimea War.

There was also regular talk of a ghost horseman round the corner on Bunting Nook.

Yes, if you go up Matthews Lane, just off Hemsworth Road you'll find the hall at the top of there. However, it is now private apartments. Still eerie walking in the vicinity at night though, as is the churchyard adjacent. Bunting Nook is also just off Matthews Lane, and has an eerie feel as well. Many ghost stories originate in this small area.

When you worked there, was it a huge empty building with just you and possibly the ghost in it and probably plenty of opportunity to scare yourself half to death...or did it have people living there too? what about when the previous guard worked there?

OK, the building was empty (and was for the other guard too) but still - - I used to go round the whole place, and the grounds,at night, alone, quite happily - except that one spot that gave me the willies but I didn't know (until after I left this duty) that this was the place being referred to.

i only wondered as, if it was me, it'd be a bit like the Shining if i was left alone in a huge place like that......:help:
