does any one else have a cat that goes slightly mad (under statement!) at certain times of the month?!

This time last month I was enduring up to 3 (live) mice a night being chased around the bedroom...all from outside I hasten to add ...
This month it's more general manic naughtiness - a couple of mice (one left as a subtle hint in his dinner bowl!) and a live magpie in my (trashed!) bedroom....waiting for me when I got home on Friday.

...I am sure that his behaviour gets worse at certain times....or do I just have a crazy cat ?

It could explain a lot of odd feline behaviour at our house too!

We too have had multiple mouse presents - at least three every day - there can't be that many more mice left in Walkley.

And our cat also brought in a live magpie. He was most annoyed when he got yelled at and his hard won prize was released ! Particularly as he had managed to drag it in through the cat flap!

Their general behaviour has been pretty manic too - chasing their own tails, spiders and butterflies. For some reason they have been doing sprints from the living room windowsill to the bottom of the garden over and over again!

Very odd!

Sounds like an average cat. :D

Some cats are better hunters than others, 5 of my cats don't hunt at all.

Milly brings in mice (just the back ends) which are easy to pick up by the tails.

Tigs bring in frogs not to eat but to play with he scoops them in to his mouth and spits them into his water bowl until he wants to play and we have to catch and relocate the frogs.

To a cat their human owner (regardless of gender) is a mum cat who protects and brings the cat food but with one exception they never see us bring in proper prey.

So the cats try to eduate the owners like a mother cat would train their kittens.

First bringing home dead or partial prey for the kittens (i.e. Us) to deal with and then bringing half dead things and finally bring completly alive things for us to kill. How nice ;)

So even though it is upsetting and yucky the cats are trying their best to train us into being efficient hunters. :D

....hmmmmm, he's kind enough to take the frogs round to the next door neighbour! (..a little favouritism going on there!).

...he was a rescue cat - handed in because the previous owners were anable to cope. You're right though, he is pretty normal for a (young active) cat.
..I wish he'd go back to the 'already dead' stage of the process though!

As for human, Full Moon Madness is all just superstition is the dominant view among researchers. But I cannot help feeling a mysterious power of Luna when I see the full moon casting a pale light in the stillness of night. Cats also must feel unusual atmosphere and have a mad time.

Cats are unpredictable, fascinating creatures. After hamsters, they are my favourite make of animal.

This month I think it's to do with the season change too.

Marjoram is currently going through the "fun" game of crying at the door then running away once the door is opened and refusing to come in whichever type or brand of food wrapper I make an inviting noise with.

She's finding since I moved the grate from the cellar that the game isn't as fun now I know that she knows how to get in whether I am there to open the door or not - which spoils her fun somewhat but means that taking the cellar door off the catch ensures I can get to bed before 3am.

Oakley, meanwhile exhibits no change at all in his Garfield-esque routine of napping, snacking and napping again.

the moon doesn't just affect our feline friends. Local hospital A&E departments seem to see a increase in cases aroudn the full moon...everyone becomes a lunatic!

Speaking of superstition and old wives tales, keep an eye on the magpie hunter beckb, not a very lucky thing for a cat to kill or injure a magpie. My favourite puss Jade did exactly the same, was very proud trotting in with her prize gift. She was knocked down a few months later :(

I'm not sure about this coz our cat is an indoor cat, but i think you can buy collars that alert poor little animals to the presence of your cat, and so gives them more of a chance of escaping. It also means that you dont have to deal with quite so many dead/half dead/ scarily alive creatures that your cat has decided to bring home for tea. :o :)

I don't get brought dead (or alive) presents from either of my cats, and the only thing they show any interest in is the squirrel, not a present i really want!
Now i know they are both stupid (one of them is really bad) and most probably just can't be arsed most of the time but they also both wear 2 bells on their collars. I don't know if this helps with them not catching things, have a try.
Though i have to say they both, but mainly the really stupid one, do have mad half hours of bazzing all around the house and garden, and chasing there tails (the really stupid one will try to eat her's :loopy: ). Can't say i have noticed it being at any particular time though.

Great news that Moon thanks!
Although perhaps it is true. The magpie hunting cat was pecked on the head by a big magpie the other night! He's a marked cat!
They're watching him.

I have 4 house cats. They are litter mates and have always stayed indoors. They are approximately 8 years old. Last year the abnormal behavior manifested itself for the first time, and I found out the next day that it occurred during the summer solstice moon. This strange behavior did not occur again until two months ago - also on full moon nights. Last night and for the previous two months, my cats have begun to turn on each other like vicious wild animals. It is really scaring me, and I have no idea what to do. I contacted my veterinarian to see what he suggests. I am afraid that they are going to hurt each other or even me. Any thoughts? Has anyone else ever experienced this?
