I work at home and I am almost going insane being cooked up in the same room 24/7.

I've decided I need a different working environment ... probably renting office space somewhere.

Any ideas ?

Workspace at the showroom do offices but they are not right cheap but they are nice!http://www.showroom.org.uk/ (http://)
Contact Kelly at kelli@workstation.org.uk

If you are going to share with someone it makes sense. They are nice. I'm thinking of renting one after christmas.

what may be an idea would be to investigate if any other small businesses have a spare office room they would consider renting out.

The firm I used to work for had such a room, and rented it out to a seperate small business

Maybe a small firm that has a large premises (maybe they need the warehousing/shop floor space of a largeer building, but don't need to use all the office rooms)

Hi Jamie,

The flip side to getting office space is the price. I did this in the 1990s and it was a SERIOUS mistake - I'd only ever do this again if I could guarantee my income for teh epriod of the lease - not easy in current market conditions.

The Science Park used to have a 'rent a desk' scheme, however, which was pretty cool.

The 2 main problems for me are:

1. I don't like being on my own all day.

2. I find I get frustrated (especially when my work is in a boring phase) and want to be in an environment that will get me in the mind for work and boost my productivity.

The obvious solution to me, is to rent office space. If anyone can think of any other ideas, plz let me know.

Well I do a bit of both Jamie. I've got an office to go to, but I also work a lot from home in the summer. I've found that I've got a little network of people like me and we tend to drop into the same coffee shops in the day for an hours break.

The nice thing about working from home is that you can start around 6, do a couple of hours before the phone rings and then bobby off for a coffee around 9.30 when the roads have calmed down. I'll usually go into the office around 11 for a few hours before nipping home via another coffee.

Most people seem to think I hardly do any work, but in reality I probably work 70+ hours each week. They just see me out and about in the day ;)

It's about achieving a balance really.
