Is anyone else concerned about the welfare of the animals they use in the challenges on this programme? I saw a clip from last night's programme where Dean Gaffney was in a container full of rats and he was unable to see the floor. Surely he could easily have stepped on or kicked on of them and seriously injured or killed it?

I don't really watch the programme but when I have seen bits, this has worried me.

Being stuck in a container with Dean Gaffney is cruel in itself.

I saw this last night and it did cross my mind too! They kept saying to him be gentle with the animals, don't hurt the animals but in all honesty he was in such a flap he didn't know what was going on.
The way he was thrashing about in the jacuzzi with the little crocs in seemed very hazardous to their wellbeing.

A lot of people I know who watch the program have commented on this. I have never thought about it in previous series but this time round its upset me a bit. Espec the rats, and the other day when that woman was throwing frogs/ toads down the well

If this is seen then the animal welfare people should do something about it. I dont watch this program but i have heard what they do and it does sound very cruel.

I just cant understand why no one has acted on this and told the animal welfare what is happening. Mind you they dont do bugger all about celebritys selling animal fur and about meat trade so what they going to do about a few rats that are getting trodden on...useless gits.

Dean Gaffney or whatever the hell he`s called didnt give a damn about any of the animals.
I was bloody cringing when he was stomping on the rats and lurching about in the croc pool. Its cruelty in the name of entertainment and I wonder how many animals are actually harmed.

And I agree that being in close proximity to Dean Gaffney's feet may be a fate worse than death.

But seriously, from the above posts, it sounds like more than an issue then I previously thought. I haven't got access to my emails at the moment but when I do I am going to email ITV and see what they have to say about it.

Probably many animals, but what can be done about it, i dont think everyone will boycott I'm a celebrity and the animal welfare guys arent doing anything.

After all some people see animals as Inferior and meant for entertainment but i think thats a load of Bull**** pardon my language.

Also when Dean was wildly lifting lobster looking things out of a tub, whilst people probably are not very keen on them it I would imagine them to be very delicate, no way would they have not been injured the way he was grabbing and chucking them!

It would seem that this campaign achieved little, then?

Er....it's a rat...hello? There are millions of the flipping things. They're hardly burning pandas with flamethrowers are they.

Got to agree with the above comment here.

If all the people complaining above saw a rat near their feet, they'd most likely be trying to kill it anyway!? :loopy:

Some would, but the ones on the show are domesticated rats, so it's no different from putting hamsters in there. Except of course, no one would be scared, and everyone would be in uproar over it.

I thought the same last night when a load of toads were dropped on Jason Donnavon's head, it must have hurt them (the toads)

Well considering Im sat here with a rat on my shoulder I think she would be most disgruntled if somebody threw her into a pit with a celebrity.

My mate kept two domesticated rats, and the female was really cute - she used to crawl around underneath me jumper and sit on my shoulder whispering in my ear.

It doesnt matter if there are lots of rats, its unhumane and even when killing rats they are killed humanely. Tons of rats in a tub with people standing on them is not humane its down right horrible. And frogs are very delicate too, their skin easily splits and once its split they will probably die within the week because it means their body will be open wide to infection. Frogs and toads are becoming endangered now, just to let you know.

Imagine the long and painful death awainting those snakes if one of them happens to bite David Guest...

Rubbish programme with hideous "celebrities", dreary presenters and an awful tendency to abuse animals of all shapes and sizes in the production of what stretches the term "entertainment" to its limits...by the end of the series the term will probably snap like the elastic in Cryil Smith's pants.

As long as people keep watching this crap they are, in effect, saying it's ok.

Stop watching it, the figures will drop, and they will stop making it.

Exactly, I dont care what animal it is the fact is they deserve to be treated fairly, and dropping them from a height for entertainment value is not fair! I used to like the show but this year the way the animals are being treated is seriously putting me off it

I've never watched the tripe since that episode in the first or second series when someone had their head in a tank of goldfish and they had to get out, with the result that the fish were scattered on the ground and just left to die. Yes, they might only be fish, but that's just not entertainment. Especially when children might be watching, and we get morons learning that it's 'OK' to hurt animals and eventually feeding a cat to their dog (like that no-mark in the news today.

Let's hope one day one of the 'celebrities' will get poisoned or bitten and die, and the show will be pulled for good then. And we'll have one less Z list 'celebrity' cluttering up our newspapers.

Daft TV programmes like this just lowers, yet again the bar on our sensiblities and I suspect lowers the morals of the new generation of our young people.
This programme is about greed. the greed of the TV company to make millions. The the greed of so called celebrities demeaning themselves for cash and the chance to reignite fallen careers.
How on earth some of these people can be called celebrities is beyond me.
They may have had some sort of fame, fame by itself does not mean you are celebrated.
