Do you think it should be banned?

Vote in the poll please and then perhaps we can have a bit of a chat about it

What do you think?

What annoys me is the argument that we shouldn't be wasting time debating this as it takes up valuable parliamentary time which could be used for more important things. I agree, lets put it to bed, ban the stupid 'sport' and get on to the things that matter.

Who voted no without putting their reasons? Perhaps they cannot justify their position?

Foxhunting should be banned because, to put any kind of life through the ordeal of being torn to pieces alive by a pack of hounds, is too horrible to contemplate.

This is human behavoir at it's most bestial, on a par with Hitlers death camps in europe during the last war, It transcends the bounds of human decency and regard for any kind of suffering.

The fox is only doing what comes naturally, in getting food for it's self and it's young, when it kills poultry in order to survive. There are more humane methods of culling the foxes, than these great bullys on horseback with their savage hounds in tow.

Nice to see you back LouiseB.

Tell me do you go into the Free Chat Forum of ADSLguide.org too?

In answer to your Q: (and I have voted) yes I think fox hunting should be banned!

It's a jolly day out for the 'tally ho' brigade. All this rubbish about vermin control makes me so madddd! The year ban on hunting due to the foot and mouth epidemic squashed that argument when there was no significant increase in the fox population.

The jobs argument doesn't wash with me either as people will still keep horses even if they can't hunt therefore will still need the services of a blacksmith.

It's blood thirsty and cruel and to be quite honest it worries me that the hunting lobby gets such a thrill from the kill.

BAN IT!!!

I said No.

It's not that I think it shouldn't be banned, just more that I don't particularly want it to be banned (if that makes sense)!

It's only an animal. I eat animals that have been killed in less humane ways... such as chickens like these (http://observer.guardian.co.uk/foodmonthly/story/0,9950,662799,00.html).

I think it would be a bit hypocritical of me to say I wanted fox hunting to be banned when this is the reality...

That's a bit of a cop out, IMO. It's like saying I won't cure poverty in Africa because it's no worse than the poverty in India.

Fox hunting today battery chickens tomorrow.

Hanging upside down passing into the factory, the birds are remarkably passive as they stare out, their darting eyes their only sign of concern. The only protest they make is a flap of the wings when the belt dips down, taking their heads into a bath of electrified water. It is meant to stun them, but many die from it, their hearts and nervous systems shut down by the powerful current.

After a few seconds, the unconscious birds are dragged out of the bath, hanging limply, water dripping from their heads. Their throats are sliced as they pass a swirling blade, those hanging too close getting their heads chopped right off, others having their neck barely nicked. A man with a bloody apron stands poised, knife in hand, ready to finish off any birds that may have survived the electric bath and throat slicing. Around his feet lie dozens of heads, cleaned up only every hour or so.

Most of the chickens' heads dangle below their bodies, connected only by a shard of skin, their gurgling throat exposed to the outside air. Thick dark blood spurts and oozes out, pouring down into a vast trough, carrying away the life blood of 260 birds every minute. This is industrialised death. The carcasses dangle their way along the conveyor belt, any remaining heads being sliced off within seconds.

I never knew ANY of this!

Nice one DB. I usually get asked why I'm a vegetarian when I'm out with friends for a meal. I tend not to use that particular reason until after the meal.

The truth of Mechanised Meat Production. I would still say it's morally equivalent to hunting your own meat with a bowie knife, but there you go.

Same result - dead animal for eating.

The health aspects of keeping chickens like that are quite serious though, and there's no question in my mind that the negative impacts of intensively farmed meat outweigh the economic savings to be made.

In most cases, the fox (pray) are already caught and they let them go about half an hour before it starts otherwise most hunt would end up being a wasted day.

I do question why catch then let it go and then use this as an excuse of culling the foxes.

I want to see it banned

I can see that there are some people who are saying that fox populations need keeping down (although I dont know why that is) but if that is the case, then 50 people in fancy jackets, hunting horns, drinking warm punch and chasing over miles of open country is probably not the most effective control measure.

I do not accept that we have "better things" to do in Parliament than this. Because the other stuff all goes on anyway. The Health, Education and Transport Ministers for instance are all working away on their things, they are not in committees discussing this, that would be only about a dozen out of 650 MPs.
The debate itself took 5.5 hours apparently, but all 650 MPs were not there for all of that time.

I dont agree that the government should only deal with some things that are important to people, and not to others. I think the government should deal with everything that matters and that includes animal welfare.

But mainly I just will be glad that some of the most arrogant and unpleasant people in our country will be stopped from doing just what they like with no regard to anyone or anything else

PS...I have never been in a ADSL chat room, have I got a body double? LOL

Those of you who voted yes may like to look at the link below which is urging supporters of a ban to send a message to Downing Street to reintroduce the hunting debate after it was omitted from the November Queen's speech. this from RSPCA (http://www.rspca.org.uk/banhunting)

Why has this poll been closed?

It is a very difficult subject to comment on and often causes serious upset, due of the nature of the topic.

I think that most will not deny that boodsports are quite awful.

But just because I don`t like it, does not mean that I want it stopped.

Difficult one...

I think it's because the person who created the thread (Belle) set a 5 day time out on it. If you check the date she started it, it was closed a LONG time ago.
