View Full Version : Do you have a favourite gizmo/gadget?
Do you have a gadget that is simple but oh so useful?
I have just returned from the supermarket after using my valuable gadget and would be lost without it.......... a disc the same size as a pound coin with pictures of bluebells on, and attached to a ring on my car keys. It fits perfectly in the coin slot and can be used for ever more.
No more hunting for a pound coin at the trolley park and as it was sold in aid of Bluebell Wood Childrens Hospice Appeal it does the charity some good too.
Whats yours?
Sam Miguel 28-08-2004, 12:10 I have a flat vinyl disc with a hole in the middle, if you attach it to a turntable and have a fixed needle running in between the grooves, traditional music from lots of different countries is emitted from it.
I was wondering, is this a world record?
 at world record.
M favourite gadget/gizmo, apart from my PC and my Xbox, has to be my digital camera.
4.2 megapixel, movie capability, totally portable and all for £89 from Curry's about 4 months ago.
My Easy Reach would not be without it
Phanerothyme 28-08-2004, 12:39 The Clipper refillable lighter, complete with essential poking thing.

Yes, on a serious note: my digital camera is my favourite bit of apparatus at the moment. It was great on holiday. I took around 250 photos which I now have on CD.
At the moment I am busy printing out the best ones to make up my holiday album.
Great fun.

We have a few of those - can't give your trolley to someone else - got to take the "coin" out.

matsalleh 28-08-2004, 15:52 For San Miguel ,
Be warned, the life of a cheapo cd can be less than 2 yrs before deterioration occurs. So the current thinking is only use good quality cds.I have no proof of this but the info came from dpreview forum.Of course it might be a marketing ploy from the quality manufacturers.
But I do know you should always copy your pictures to a cd before you do any enhancements, and never save them, always save as.That way you always have your original copy to work from.
PIF_Tails 28-08-2004, 19:21 I love our TIVO hard disk recorder.
It will record off Sky or freeview or Cable and changes the tv channels automatically.
We programmed what we liked to watch show wise and whenever we want to watch tv we sit down and see what has been recordered for us.
Since we bought a TIVO we now watch a lot less tv overall but I watch a lot more of the shows I like and I love the fact that we can pause the tv whenever we want is ace.
If you are a music lover, the I Pod is life (Style) changing.
If music is not your thing a Gps, road or field is a real eye opener!

I have lots of gadgets, my tool kit is full of them, various tubes, flat pieces of steel, circular disks, different thicknesses of wire, Goggles for protecting my eyes when using the electric grinder, coloured adhesive tape, very small vices that screw on to the table top for small jobs.
But my favourite is my new tin opener, I have prepared a dinner in a tin today and had to open seven tins, did it in 10 seconds flat with my efficient tin opener, then we had a bottle of Spanish sweet white wine, all over in no time at all, washed up and in front of TV.
