Sultana 16-11-2006, 16:03 Heard it said on old tapes of "The Navy Lark", but don't know it's origin. We tend to say Biff & Bash at our house. Tosh posts on the Blades threads :D I also remember my mum telling me as a youngster to watch out for that TISH when walking in town. As I got older older many people would tell me the next day they saw me staggering home fromt pub last neet. Actually i was as sober as a judge and just dodging the dogsh*t :D Timbuck 25-11-2006, 15:40 They were a pair of cockney spivs in a wartime wireless show, it may have been ITMA.I've been doing some research on this thread and I'm not getting much info:..But i'm being led to believe that "Tish & Tosh" with the opening lines "Whotcher Tish, Wottcher Tosh" were two spivs but on the "Charlie Chester Show"..along with "Whippet Quick" the cat burglar and many others..You must remember "Down in the Jungle living in a tent better than a Prefab no rent". Timbuck 28-11-2006, 18:47 More about Tish and Tosh ......I've just discovered an old childrens book from the early 50's titled "The Ace Book of Comics" in it are two characters called "Tish and Tosh The Tropical Tramps" They are a pair of "Abott and Costello" type of lads who have adventures in the Far East getting into all sorts of trouble with snake charmers and such..The illustrator who drew them is called "Cecil Orr" but I can't find anymore info about him...The book was published by "Odhams Press LTD" Timbuck 28-11-2006, 19:06 Thread concluded....."Cecil Orr Cartoonist 1909 - 1965" invented "Tish and Tosh" and it seams like they were illustrated in "The Radio Times" to which he contributed quite a lot of material. hagardriley 29-11-2006, 22:11 Didn't the hangman Albert Pierpoint and his 'friend' who he ended up hanging use Tish and Tosh as nicknames for each other? I remember something about that from Pierpoints memoirs. Not sure about him being a 'friend'. My recollection (vague) is that it was a bloke who he got talking to in a boozer and was later called upon to hang. :gag: :gag: :gag: |
