Collinette have released a new sock yarn - Jitterbug (http://www.colinette.com/sess/utn;jsessionid=15455c5e4b1c7f9/shopdata/0020_yarns/0007_wools/0005_jitterbug/product_overview.shopscript). Some nice colours there. I wonder if our lovely local Collinette stockist will be getting some - Jill? Now does that tempt you into making socks Beans?

I like Jay and Castagna. The others are a little on the eyeball-searing side for me. Reminds me a little of Cherry Tree Hill sock yarn.

Does anyone else think some of it in those pictures looks a little under-dyed in places? I think I can spot the white of the yarn peeking through. I'd need to see the skein and give it a fondle to double-check. Any reports of seeing it in the flesh would be much appreciated :) .

Hello All. :)

I'm an avid reader of the knitting forum and have eased myself in slowly by posting a few threads so far. I love knitting  and it's really cool to read about everyones knitting ventures.

About a month ago I visited Wool Baa and noticed Jill had been sent some bright and yummy looking yarn, whilst also unpacking some nice hundertwasser opal sock yarn that caught my eye too!!! Lo and behold its jitterbug. I think it was just some sample jitterbug yarns and from what I saw and fondled, it was fantastic. I guess she'll get some in as it was really nice yarn.

Hope this helps!!

Oooh, thanks curlywurly, just what I wanted; a first-hand experience with it. My nearest LYS stocks Colinette, so I think I'll have to make the trip (only fifteen or so miles away, so probably best to give them a ring first  ) .

Have I said welcome to the knitting group, by the way? My memory for names is appaling. I think I must have welcomed most people at least twice :hihi: .

Just in case: Welcome to the knitting group  .

Thanks for the welcome Hecate!!

I've had a rumble through the tinternet and found this link that you might be interested in looking at:

The colours are BRIGHT but think it gives a good indication of colour variation and pattern.

There's a fair bit of pooling of the colours on that sock, isn't there? :suspect: The pictures of the yarn on the Colinette site makes it look like there's more variation/shorter colour repeats.

Just checked again, and the sock in that picture looks like it's in the Magenta colourway, which does seem to be mostly pink with splashes of blue. Waaaay too bright for me, though I would like to see those colours I mentioned above in the flesh, and even better, see a knitted sample of them.

EDIT: Checked yet again. Could it be that the diagnonal pooling is deliberate? Not too sure. I think not, actually, because I don't think it's that attractive in the way a self-striping sock yarn would be.

HI Curlywurly to the group :waves:

I think it can probably be said that my sock knitting days are getting further away  I've just fell in love with the weaving so much lately, and the Sari bag is taking forever to knit.

I've spent this afternoon teaching myself to crochet (at last!) using the happy hooker book, I was a bit daunted at first - how can a book that says crochet is all about just one movement, then be about 300 pages long!!??

Aching hands now, but i've mastered the basics.

The sock yarn does look nice though, maybe the more vibrant colours contrast so much against the white that it does make it stand out more?

LOL it is a hefty tome, isn't it  .

It could be. Maybe it's the lighting too. It just looks like in places the colour hasn't really absorbed into the yarn. Maybe it's part of the effect. I sometimes see it on hand-dyed yarn where two colours meet. It can look more like a mistake, an oversight or inexpertly dyed yarn though.

Not that I'm saying that the Colinette yarn is inexpertly dyed, of course :hihi: .

I liked the look of the yarn when i went on the website but looking at that picture of a knitted sock on that other forum, i've definitley been put off! The colours just look like a big 'splodge' :gag: Shame, i liked 'popsicle'.

May be this might entice some of you!

I see what you mean about the splodges of colour tho. Sometimes pictures of yarn don't quite do it justice. What I saw in 'real-life' did look good.

I like 'popsicle' too. Might have to investigate some more.

Hello  to beansforyou, thanks for the welcome.

Read the thread quickly didn't know you were new, Hi Curlywurly

The link you just put on actually looks really good (the little baby socks) very different to the ones on that forum, hmmm strange... :suspect:

The colinette sock yarn is the same texture as opal, nowhere near as squooshy as CTH or LL. A bit disappointing really.

It makes lovely baby socks. I dont like the pooling on the pink/ purple one in the link but think if you used one of the ones with more colours it would look lovely.

The baby socks are lovely. The pair on the left look like they're made with the Magenta colour, though the colour repeats appear to be shorter than with the sock in the first link curlywurly posted :suspect:. Quite similar to the effect I got using the ArtYarns merino, infact.

Thanks for all being so welcoming!!! :)

The two links showing the socks do look different don't they.

Anyway, my addiction to sock knitting means I'll just have to try the Jitterbug wool and I shall keep you all posted on the production!!!! I'm going to try 'Mardi Gras' so fingers crossed.

I don't have any plans to stock it as I don't think it has anything to recommend it over and above the Opal and Lana Grossa:| (I did have a bit of a sample in the shop but haven't seen it for a few weeks.....) I'll let you know if I get any in. At the moment I would have difficulty finding somewhere in the shop to put it..... must stop buying yarn - but it is so difficult. I did have a massive delivery from Colinette today . Felt like stopping behind just to look at it :hihi:
