I have been looking for a job for a while now and have been using the jc website a lot to apply for jobs but i either here nothing back or the position has been filled. Somone suggested to me that because it's free advertising and companies have to advertise all jobs by law that they have already found a person before advertising.
This really annoyed me as i waste time sending off applications etc....
 Just thought i'de share my anger and see what you all thought. If i'm wrong please correct me:confused:

*shrugs*

I've found jobs via their website on more than one occasion

I didn't think it was free advertising? just cost less than 'real' job agencies

like i said i don't know for a fact, just seems strange.....i apply for reasonable jobs and ring them the day they appear but they're already filled........:|

perhaps you could try e-mailing for the same job after you've been told it's filled.... Just out of curiosity :suspect:

Can you think of a reason somebody would not want to employ you if they've only got your voice to go on?

Are you applying for switchboard jobs but have a lisp for instance?

haha
no, but a fair question to ask. My voice is fine....but now i'm getting paranoid....only kidding:hihi:
Well.....i will see what tomorrow brings...and hope my suspisions are not confirmed.:suspect:

If you have a genuine concern, you can re-contact the job centre, and ask what date the job was advertised, and they can also look at their own database to see if they have more up to date info than the website - which is only updated every 24 hours I believe (or at least that seemed to be how it was done 3 years ago ;) )

Thanks, i am losing heart with it a bit. I might get myself down there. I've been out of work for a few months and haven't claimed anything. Maybe if i start asking them for money they might have a secret file full of real jobs. hahahaha:hihi:
no but seriously, never been in a job centre before, might aswell give it a go.

you can register online now can't you?

I'd avoid the jobcentre like the plague if you don't want treating like something that's been trodden in

Oh, and apply for a few jobs via real agencies - eg www.reed.co.uk . www.monster.co.uk is pretty good too, and there's a thread on here called something like 'search all the job websites at once'

I'm gona have a look at reed.co.uk. I'm on monster but it's mostly graduate jobs and i've just dropped out of uni.
You mean you can register online for them finding you jobs or job seekers allowance...?
I had a look at job seekers allowance and I could only find them telling you what it is and how much you get; not how to get it, so i just presumed you had to get yourself down there....

there you go (http://www.dwp.gov.uk/eservice/)

You have to be in a jobcentre plus area though, I think - and if you don't know if you are, give it a go until the system kicks you out :P

Hi senora - this may be too late but you will need to ring to make a claim to benefits before going down to the jobcentre on 0845 6002556. All new claims to benefits are done initially over the phone and then they will arrange to ring you back, before you need to even set foot in the Jobcentre.

With regards to the jobs advertised, it is true that it is free advertisement for companies but this shouldn't be the reason that you have come accross the problems that you have.

When i used to work there employers were always told when they advertise a vacancy in the jobcentre that they must tell us when it has been filled so we can take it off the system and more people don't apply for it when it has already gone. Unfortunately due to the sheer volume of vacancies there were plenty that used to not inform us and therefore situations like yours would arise. I presume this is what is still happening now.

Hope this helps a little!

I belief that when employers advertise on the job centre web site they can specify how many applicants they are willing to consider, my son as phoned about jobs and been told “ sorry we are not taking any more applicants”

Don’t take it personally, just keep trying.

Cheers for that list, classicfan!

Very useful indeed, hopefully I'll have more luck with some of these than I have the Job Centre Plus site.
