I know Hitchcock did it alot and we've mentioned Shyalaman in The Village thread but does anyone know any other cameos?
I'll start off. Scorsese does it in afew of his: At the end of Raging Bull he tells De Niro its time to go on stage when he's practising the "I coulda been a winner" speach.
And his mother and father are Pesci's parents in Goodfella's.
He's also in Taxi Driver as the psycho passenger who asks De Niro to pull up outside his wifes appartment because shes having an affair or something.

Michel Blanc in Summer Things. He plays the paranoid husband who is convinced his wife has a string of lovers.

I know Leonard "Mr Spock" Nimoy sat in the Director's chair for a couple of the old Star Trek films as well as his role of portraying the Vulcan science officer.

Are we just talking about director cameos?

if not, lets not forget the most influential director in his own film (IMHO anyway):

Orson Welles

Yes, that's right. In unbreakable he plays a guy that is in the queue for the game.

Peter Jackson plays an extra in the town of Bree in L.O.T.R. The fellowship of the ring.

In Minority Report Cameron Crowe (who directed Vanilla Sky) has a cameo as the guy reading the newspaper on the train and spots Tom Cruise. This was in return for the cameo he gave to Steven Spielberg in Vanilla Sky. Steven appears at a party where he's greets Tom Cruise as a son of a b****.

Kevin Costner does alot of directing and starring in the same films.

Colin Dexter, who wrote the Morse novels, has a cameo appearance in quite a few episodes of Morse.

Where are spielberg and lucas in the temple of doom? Tell me! I'm intrigued!
Lucas and spielberg love stuff like that though don't they? In the phantom menace there's loads of stuff- theres a statue of lucas in queen amidalla's palace, theres a delegate of aliens who look like ET in the senate.
In close encounters on the side of the mother ship you can just see R2D2 on the side sticking out.

They are in the background at the airport in Shanghai.

Speaking of Harry Ford - Blade Runner
In the sequence where Deckard and Gaff approach police headquarters in a spinner, a model of the Millennium Falcon, disguised as a building, can be seen in the lower left corner of the frame. The model was a personal project of one of the film's model builders, and was used as a building at the last minute.

Last Crusade
When Indy is at Walter Donovan's, his wife enters the room begging Donovan to join the party, in the background the Star Wars theme commonly dubbed Storm Trooper march can be heard in the background being played on a piano.

Temple of Doom
The sound effect we hear in the opening sequence on the plane is the same failing-engine sound effect used when Han Solo's Millennium Falcon fails to crank up in The Empire Strikes Back

Raiders
The hieroglyphics in the Well of Souls include engravings of R2-D2 and C-3PO (from Star Wars (1977), etc). They can be seen on a post to the right of Indy and Sallah as they remove the Ark.
