Tony 26-08-2004, 21:56 You're too young to find out Em. :P em16uk 26-08-2004, 22:08 yeah funny i'm not 16 anymore. Tony 26-08-2004, 23:11 Ah, but are you 18? *Tony tries VERY hard not to sound like Em's Dad* :D genesiscouch 26-08-2004, 23:15 Go ahead Tony, just let it all out :D "You're 17 aren't you!! You shouldn't be worried about what bars you should be frequenting! Smell the flowers, enjoy the carefree days of your youth!" :D Tony 27-08-2004, 08:03 Hehe, I'm sorry Em. My tongue is firmly in my cheek. :P Eeee.. kids today, they don't know they're born... all this bongo music, bring back National Service and Aha!, that's what I say. Classic Rock 27-08-2004, 09:38 You are legally allowed to enter a bar on your own from the age of 14 as long as you only purchase a soft drink. I learned this when studying towards my national licencees certificate. It's then up to the house if they choose to admit under 18s. We let under 18s (over 14s) in but do not serve them alcohol....they are often in a band or a friend of the band or a relative of the band playing. robbie 27-08-2004, 19:36 thought you had to be 16 to be served at the bar? Rich 27-08-2004, 19:54 I used to get served shandy at the bar back when I was 14, it was in the St Phillip's club at Netherthorpe, buck 27-08-2004, 21:08 We had an 18 year old niece come out from Ireland to settle here and enjoy the good life. When she found out the drinking age was 21 she buggered off home! BarMan 27-08-2004, 23:25 According to the Forum home page it's only your 17th birthday today, have you been telling a little white lie? Happy birthday though igm1 28-08-2004, 10:59 Originally posted by Classic Rock You are legally allowed to enter a bar on your own from the age of 14 as long as you only purchase a soft drink. Angel05 28-08-2004, 11:18 I always thought it was 14 you were allowed in a pub with an adult... I knew nothing about being able to get served soft drinks at the bar or drinking at the age of 16... Have i lead a sheltered life... D2J 28-08-2004, 12:06 Originally posted by ianmitchell you're allowed a alcoholic drink with your meal when you are 16. Please explain how that works, you have to be 18 to drink alcohol in bars but if you have a meal you can get a drink at 16 ?? :help: Angel05 28-08-2004, 12:09 My thoughts exactly... How does that work... D2J 28-08-2004, 12:17 Might take my sis to the pub with me tonight then if I do end up goin.. 'Is she 18?' 'No she is 16 but she is having a bowl of chips and washing it down with a smirnoff ice :D ' Angel05 28-08-2004, 12:26 LOL!!!! Sounds like a plan that needs to be actioned... let us know the out come lmao... if your in the pub long enough lol Tony 28-08-2004, 13:43 The rules get a bit complicated, and I'm very fuzzy on it, but its something like cider, porter at 16, with an adult and a meal. At the end of the day, you would be hard pressed to find a licensee who would risk the aggro though. BarMan 29-08-2004, 14:25 It's been a while since I did my licensing course, but you can go into a pub, but not the "bar" (room in which the bar is) when you're 14 with a parent. you can drink of cider, wine or porter(?) at 16 but only if you're having a meal. You can actually be accompanied by a parent when you're as young as 5 if I remember rightly, so as long as you're not in the "bar" you can buy a 5yo a drink! This doesn't apply everywhere though, because some pubs have conditions on their licenses which restrict anyone under 18 being on the premises. igm1 30-08-2004, 11:40 Originally posted by Deejay Please explain how that works, you have to be 18 to drink alcohol in bars but if you have a meal you can get a drink at 16 ?? :help: At the age of 16 with your meal (I mean a proper meal, e.g. sunday roast) you are allowed one drink. I think it may be cause when you are having a meal the alcohol won't affect the "innocent" 16 year old's thinking. Caronp 08-09-2004, 19:39 Em what type of bar do you like? |
