After seventeen years ministering to the needs of the General Cemetery, the finest Victorian cemetery in the north of England, the Friends of the General Cemetery (now known as Sheffield General Cemetery Trust) are sorely in need of some new blood ( no pun intended folks).

In particular we urgently need a supervisor for the regular Tuesday morning landscape garden group. Anyone with wildlife or landscape qualifications, and an interest in working with our volunteers in this fascinating corner of Sharrow please get in touch. It's a designated local nature reserve you know !
We also need new volunteers to help with running the Gatehouse office on a rota basis, and with gardening, fundraising, and running site tours and events.

Free tea, coffee and biscuits supplied, and we can pay (reasonable) travel expenses. Enquiries in time for Thursdays AGM - 7pm Thursday 16th November at the Lansdowne Chapel on Cemetery Road.

I've decided to tidy up a few threads, and this one is one of 'em.

Yes, we did get a landscape supervisor, and a star he has turned out to be (Spike blushes).

The community conservation group is still running thanks to him, and has gone from strength to strength. New plants and shrubs in the cemetery, soil improved, thinning out of ash saplings, established compost piles, set up habitat and wildlife surveys and much more. In the past few months we've also been working with a drug rehabilitation charity and a couple of 'Challenge Annika' style groups.

Join us on every Tuesday 10-12 noon for a dig-in.
