A multi-million pound plan to build a casino next to Sheffield United has been unveiled.

The club is teaming up with a Las Vegas-based company to build an eight storey hotel and casino next to the Bramall Lane ground.

The venture is expected to create about 1,500 jobs, and the plans are on show outside the club's South Stand.

Blades director Alan Bamford says the project will give the club much-needed financial stability.

Under the plans, the club will redevelop large areas of land in what is claimed to be one of the biggest regeneration projects in Sheffield.

Bill Weiner, president of the club's partner Las Vegas Sands Inc, has said that he wants to make the entertainment complex a "fun" place.

Yeah and there is another casino planned next to the Don Valley Stadium, there are a few planned throughout the country due to the relaxed gambling laws which come into force soon, the word on the street is that only one will eventually be developed, but we can always hope, vivi las sheffield, the gambling capital of the uk.

don't think the new Gambling Act has been passed yet, and its looking increasingly likely that it won't be passed either.

I've just been down to Bramall Lane and the plans for the casino look fantastic.

I'm a bit concerned about the glass frontage though. What will happen when United play teams such as Leeds, Millwall and Cardiff?

I hope they will have extra security or extra tough glass just in case any fighting breaks out.

Why's a casino going to take money away from families?

its just more dead money, more spending! my friend has 4 kids he earns good money but he is always at casino in hillsborough wasting money, money that he should be giving to his GF for the kids, food etc not gambelling it away & that is how i see any place like that, bookys casinos, they encourage people to spend money, why cant SUFC come up with something better, ok the hotel, its providing people with a service but a casino is just encouraging spending!

At the end of the day, money talks.

Theres a lot of money to be made from owning a casino and I'm afraid it's people like your mate who keep the profits rolling in.

You can't really blame the developers or SUFC. Casinos have got to be one of the biggest money making establishments going.

It's good for Sheffield United and its also good for the 1500 people it will employ.

By that logic you'd have to shut down pubs, clubs and half the shops in Sheffield. What's wrong with letting grown ups decide whether or not they want to spend their money in a casino? Nobody's forcing your friend to gamble.

casinos take money off of people who have surplus funds, create more jobs and help rejuvinate a run down area and bring much needed money into Sheffield.
