Parking in the area is painfull on a Friday though! Puffin 11-11-2006, 19:59 Thanks that puts my mind at ease at least about the mosque. Need to think about parking now! Any Ideas? rubydazzler 11-11-2006, 20:03 I live fairly close and have never heard anything from it. Parking in the area is painfull on a Friday though! Do you mean now or when it was in the old co-op building? Is the new one in use now? I thought it wasn't anywhere near finished? Will there be an open day soon then? or have we missed it? tab1 12-11-2006, 03:32 i used to live there it was never a problem but on particular times like friday was too busy!cars parked either side of the road! Friday is a busy day for various other reasons too but the mosque only has the mid-afternoon prayer that causes some traffic. Then immediately afterwards the afternoon rush to get home early starts everywhere in the city, but here the mosque gets all the blame. The building is not officially finished yet but is clean enough and with temporary carpets in the main hall can be used for prayers. Evening Prayers have been held in the main part of the masjid during the Month of Ramadan ending a few weeks ago and also some funeral services have been held there already. The fears expressed by some closet racists about funding for the masjid by the council have come to nothing more than scaremongering. The local community's collections have been ongoing and although the work was halted for a short time, it is in progress again and nearing completion. I believe bulk of the construction is done but the finishing and carpets and so on are still to be fitted. On a general note however if people living in the area who are of course "the community" and as such if any of them have concerns about parking or other issues then they should be raised now and any such problems resolved rather than let misunderstandings fester. If for example the people in charge can be asked to request all those who are attending prayers, not to bring cars but walk instead and maybe help the situation, after all it did used to be a co op. They can only do something if they are made aware of your concerns. Gir4ffe 13-11-2006, 22:45 Other than parking problems on Fridays and when there are events, you shouldn't find any hassle. Would you be worried about living close to a church? |
