View Full Version : Woman asking for 'bus money'

Im posting this to see if anybody else in the Wisewood/hillsborough area has had a similar experiance.........

A couple of weeks ago me and my dad were backing onto the drive in the car when a woman [white, late 20's, very skinny, mousy long wavey hair.]came up to the window looking upset. My dad put his window down and she told us she had 'been thrown off the bus 3 stops before she wanted to get off and could we lend her 50p to go the rest of the way!'
She was clearly pretending to cry and as there isnt actually a bus stop near our house we just told her we didnt have any money.
As we were teling her this, a man[white, 30ish, black messy hair] walked passed and looked at her but walked passed and went up our neighbours gennel. He then walked straight back down ansd round the corner to where the woman had walked.
We thought that they were maybe working together to try and mug people.

Anyway..... this week on wednesday, my dad was walking back from my nans not far from our house and was approached by the same woman on the shops, again telling the same story and asking for 50p! She clearly didnt remember my dad and he just said something along the lines of 'you've been waiting a long time for that bus love, you asked me same question 2 weeks ago!' She then walked off and as my dad was walking along he saw the bloke with black hair that had walked past her the 1st time it happened. He seemed to recognise my dad and drove off towards the woman and she got in the van with him.

They are definately doing something dodgy but can I really report this to the police as they havent done anything to us?
Has anybody else seen these people?

I would report it, just to make them aware, i dont think theyll do much but it might help someone if you give a discription to the police incase someone does get mugged.

the whole forum knows her she has been the topic of a couple of threads before they were taken off for 'defaming her character' from the desciption its sounds like her and her fella

Really! Blimey do they actually mug people then or just go round getting money off people!?

KJ_VENOM

not sure if they mug anyone i've not personally heard of them doing this they just use sob stories to get money but get shirty if they're ignored

Just read one of the threads thats not yet been deleted [but is closed] about her!
It definately sounds like her! Im definately going to give her a piece of my mind if she asks me for money again!
I cant belive the threads about her have been deleted incase she gets abused! She should get a job and work like the rest of us have to and stop 'ABUSING' peoples goodwill and the tax system! The cheeky t**t!!!
Grrrrrrrr......Im going to count to ten now and chill out!

No she didnt have a crutch but I immediatly thought she was a druggy or a prostitute coz she had a face like skeletor and was about 6 stone!

Sounds like her, but we should be careful not to jump to conclusions. In a city as large as Sheffield it's possible there could be more like her. Plus her hair is straight and blonde, not mousy and wavey.

Like a Skeletor ? Maybe she could get a job in Hollywood in the next "Shawn of the Dead" and she wouldnt have to go far for drugs in LA - then SHeffield could be left in peace ...

It does sound like Gemma, and the description does fit her bloke.

Maybe with all the money she gets from people she decided to go to a haridressers and get mousey wavey hair, now that everyone recognises her.

A young woman asked me for a 20p/10ps to phone her mom in town as she had lost her (sceptical but I listened). I thought I was getting the 20p back in change as I know the usual give money types and refuse, but emptied pocket and found no 10s or 20s. She said could I have that 50p and I said you mean I give you 50p and she said yes so I refused. I said give me your moms number and I will call her (would cost me nowt) but as expected she was lying. I later saw her walking up division street with what I subsequently realised was her pimp because when I got to my car and drove down hill opposite Jessops she was on the corner touting for business. I had spent my 50p so I didn't stop.

Eeeek! We've just had someone of this description (definitely not Gemma!) come to our door about half an hour ago (22.45) . I'd like to think she was genuine but it was so freaky! Me and the cat were sleepily on the sofa. She did look pretty upset. Drugs or worse in my sweet neighbourhood?? surely not!:(

There has been an older woman asking for 50p on Middlewood Rd last week or so.

sounds like a growing business.

I earn around £14/hour, minus tax .. probably £10/hour.

would only need 20 people an hour to say yes to 50p.. hummm.. maybe a bit optomistic.. (goes back to drawing board to ponder next scheme).

I was walking down to Victoria Keys car park from work one day last week and a young woman with a similar description was walking up, accosting everyone and asking if we could give her 50p as she didn't have enough money for her busfare. I just told her that I didn't have any change, which was actually true (but wouldn't have given her anything if I had)

This girl came to my mums house about 2 months ago rang the doorbell at about 8pm and started crying saying she had no bus money, because it was dark and i couldnt bear the poor girl having to walk home, i gave her the money for a bus. I thought she looked dodgy, but thought if anything happens to her (if she was genuine) i would feel awful. God I'm such a mug.

i was once driving home after a gig in hull it was about 3 or 4am i saw a young woman at a bus stop with a baby in a pram i stopped and told her the buses didnt start running for ages i offered her a lift, which she accpeted it took me an extra 30 minutes to get home but at least i knew she was safe if someone came to my door asking for money i'd probably offer the same service if thye're genuine they probably would accept if not still want the money

If they set their aspirations higher and, instead of asking for 50p for the bus said they needed £10 for a taxi, they wouldn;t need to pester so many people.

My particular favourite is the chap who wanders around road junctions with a petrol can in his hand, looking agitated, and claims that he has just run out of petrol, has lost his wallet and could you bung him a couple of quid. When you decline he asks you for a fag.

I have had the same woman round at my house a few months ago. I know its the same woman as I live five mins away from Sam1984.
It was the same story, she had the tissue and had been thrown off the bus and her mum would bring me the money in the morning!
She didn't get any money and was sent on her way as well as being reported to the police!
They said they are going round houses checking out who answers the doors as old people would make better targets etc Having a good old look at what you have in the house while they are at it!
All she got a look at when she visited my house was the big german shepherd who stood at the door with me!

Ok guys I need help, Its late the buses have stopped running, so 50p is no good to me.

There are no taxi's around so £10 is no good.
If you all could club together and give me just enough to buy a little runaround something like a 2007 Porsche 911 Carrera S Coupe.
£70k should be enough.

Thanks

I think she must have read your post. She knocked on our door at 4am on thursday night/friday morning askind for £6.50 for a taxi to take her from Hillsborough to Prince of Wales Rd. She said she had just left casualty, but seemed confused when I asked how she had made it from the Northern General to Hillsborough.;)

She told me if I gave her the money her mum would return it in the morning. If I hadn't been so tired, I might have driven her to Prince of Wales road myself to pester people there instead.

I'm really hoping she comes back to us soon so I can let her know what I think of her. I was too tired to be angry with her and I only got up and opened the door because I thought it was one of our neighbours who isn't very well.

When did she last visit you Boroughgal and Patchy?

After a fourth, yes fourth visit, and another call to the police she never came back! The fourth time I was on the front of my house talking to our dog trainer and she was just about to walk up our path. I went up to her and asked her what she wanted and the 'tears' came and the same old story started to come out.....I went mad and went 'let me guess, you got thrown off the bus and desperately need some money for you're fair'? She didnt know what to do and the tears miraculously stopped and she reckoned she only wanted to know the time!....She had a watch on, which I pointed out and she then went mad and accused me of being on drugs. At this point I was hysterically laughing at her and carried on talking to the dog trainer while she walked round the corner swearing and got straight into a car that was waiting for her!!!

When I rang the police they said they had had loads of calls about her and they were 90% certain who it was. Saw quite a few police on the streets for the week after so Im hoping they caught her in the act.

When did she last visit you Boroughgal

She first came a few months ago, and stupidly gave her a quid on the condition she didn't wake my neighbours.

She then came again about a week ago, knocked on the door about midnight, I looked through the window and got quite angry with her. She left, no problems.

When I rang the police they said they had had loads of calls about her and they were 90% certain who it was. Saw quite a few police on the streets for the week after so Im hoping they caught her in the act.

Not sure that they can do anything about her though, she's not breaking the law by asking for money with the excuse that she's lost her bus money. She's not robbing anyone and there's no suggestion that she's doing anything else untoward?

best course of action is this..

i need 50p for bus.... go with her to bus stop and put her on a bus and pay.

i need 50p to make a phone call....ask her the number and offer to fone for her.

a friend of mine from japan saw me being approched for 20p from her a while back...my friend just turned to me and said 'she prostitute?' i couldnt stop laughing haha.

Oh god so shes still knockin about then, great! You should still report her anyway to the Safer Neighbourhood Team, just so they know she's still being a nuisance.
They said they could get her done for harrassment in my case as she had done it 4 times and they also asked me to I.D her from a photo of the person they thought it was.
She had better not start coming round here again, she must be so thick or more likely smacked of her face to not realise she had been to the same house 4 times! I wish she'd just get lost and get a job like the rest of us!

Is she not breaking any laws regarding begging?

I'm not really bothered about her personally as I know to not give her any money, but I'm concerned about any elderly people who may answer the door to her. If she comes back here I will probably dial 101.

Thats what bothers me. My grandparents live near me and if someone like that went knocking on their door Id be worried. She can get done for begging yes, but they need to catch her doing it so if you see her around ring 101 and tell them so they can look out for her.

Think "Gemma" is now going a bit further afield. She has just knocked on my door, I live on Cookson Road, telling me that she has just been to casualty and lost her day saver, and could I give her some bus money. Funny, we live a good couple of miles away from Northern General Hospital and even further from Hallamshire, so why on earth should she be on Cookson Road?
I assume it was her, skinny, mousy long hair, waring a beige cardigan with a belt that ties at the middle. If she was a genuine person, and she is reading this, I am very sorry that I refused to give you money, but I seriously doubt it.

OK, we had a new one the other night in town- she almost sounded convincing- very slim attratice blond girl maybe early 20s carrying a SAKs shopping bag and claiming to have had her purse and all her money stolen in Meadowhell (so what was she doing in the city centre?) needed to get her last coach home at 10:40pm (it was about 10:25pm then) and we were her last hope- could we sub her the money?

Aside from the fact that we were both skint, it all sounded too rehearsed to be genuine - we found it wierd that such a seemingly sophisticated young woman did not appear to own a mobile phone (in which case she couldve phoned a friend or relative), she did not tell us where she was planning to travel to and it all just sounded not quite right. Would be interested to hear if anyone else has heard that one (oh we told a friend after wards and he said a similar scam had been shown on The Real Hustle.
