Anyone know of a good builder thats capable of doing a loft conversion and can be bothered to come and give us a quote?

What is it with builders? They say their coming then dont bother turning up. Do they have so much dosh that they dont need the work, or are they just bone idle?

I wouldn't recommend the guy I got to do mine. Turned a 2 week job into a two month one, and kept asking for more money.

Did a reasonable job in the end, but it was a real pain to keep hassling him to complete the job.

I've found that seems to be the case with most builders - good at starting and the major work, but they never seem to finish anything properly.

And of course we had additional hassle and extra costs from Sheffield Building Standards who insisted we fit fire doors to all floors, and install a landing in the attic with a fire door that wastes about 1/3 of the available space.

Nightmare.

Still worth it in the end - the Room is my computer den, and my haven from family life :rolleyes:

The builder should have done this. If he is not working to building regulations he should be stopped.

It's probably of no use to you (being in Manchester), but this company is outstanding. They take two to three weeks and everything is included in the price - including all the fire doors, and mains wired smoke alarms. The team works long hours and from my garden can see at least seven or eight of their conversions. Our area is full of them and everyone says how great they are.

I can recommend Truss Lofts they did a brilliant job on ours, their web address is www.trussloft.co.uk
Their whole service was ten out of ten, I cant imagine any better service, we have recommended them to lots of friends who all say the same.
They are based in Ripon , but do all over.
If you call them ask to speak to Roger, I have his surname at work if you need it.

good luck it will be well worth it, we cant imagine not having ours done, its a huge bedroom now with dressing room.
