:help:
I am fundraising at the moment (to fulfill a volunteer placement in India).
I have had a pennant donated by Sheffield United - and signed by the team.
Originally my plan was to hold a raffle...but having looked at this in more detail - have been told that this is actually not legally possible ooops! ( this is because I am not a charity and need to raise funds by sponsorship or donation...so if you'd like to know more or donate let me know!).
I also now have a pennant that I want to try and sell - but have no idea how much this is likely to fetch - any ideas/estimates?

Presumably you are doing your placement as part of a larger organisation...

If so, I'd contact them and see if they have someone who can cover the necessary legal obligations...

There are more than one way to skin a cat ...

Hi

I will be working with an American organisation - Cross Cultural Solutions...I think the law is restrictive as I am (perceived to be) benefitting as an individual. If I was raising the funds on behalf of a group (e.g. under-priviledged kids going on a trip) this would be OK.
& no one can run this on behalf of me for this same 'individual benefitting' reason - it's all very complicated! I tried to plough my way though the legalities of lottery/raffle laws and gave up - phoned the help line instead!

Hmm.. in that case the next best thing I can think to suggest is to auction it on eBay or something like that...

Perhaps try getting the local media involved but if you're going that route, be sure and get advice on the smartest way to phrase and angle the press release...

....was thinking of selling it at the car boot I'm doing this week-end....but I'd get haggled down to about 50p!...so Ebay may be the way forward!
...I've written off to the Telegraph and the Star too - but no response yet :-(

...do you have an idea of how much this may fetch?

A quick search on eBay came up with a " Sheffield United Utd Signed Pennant Charity Auction" that ended on 10 August 2004 with a winning bid of £18.00 . Another similar one reached £8.51 on the 17 August.

Good luck!

thanks for this!
I had a quick look last night but could only see loads of Arsenal and Bavid Beckham stuff!
...I reckon I can aim for somewhere in the middle for price..

I've found a solution!...the Sheffield United signed pennant is being auctioned off (using blind bids)....if you are around the Canal basin area - pop into Stumpy's sandwich shop and have a go ;-)
....also try a sandwich while you're there - as they are very, very good!

or if you can't make it down there - and want to have a go...send me a message and I'll put it in for you
