Are there any painters here?. I wondered if anyone knew of any art galleries that stage regular 'open' exhibitions?. Apart from The Sheffield Art Show, are there any regular art events in Sheffield?.

There are some group meetings there that look interesting. Its a pity there arn't more open art exhibitions like the one at The Cooper Gallery in Barnsley or the shows at Buxton museum and art gallery. Sometimes it seems like no one if Sheffield is very interested in art, mores the pity. Cheers. kittenta 10-11-2006, 09:19 yw, hope you find something you like! Unfortunatly looking at art doesn't seem as natural to some people as going for a stroll in the park or off to the pub! Many people who have an interest in art do so because they have been introduced to it be it through school / college or a friend. It isn't really something you just fall across. I've taken my kids before now and they were quite interested, it is a shame schools don't take them. farmer 14-11-2006, 22:24 [QUOTE=chrisp7091] Sometimes it seems like no one if Sheffield is very interested in art, mores the pity. I cant believe that anyone thinks this way. The Sheffield art scene has never been more active. Just take a look in Yellow Pages or the listings in the Sheffield Telegraph to see how many art galleries there are in Sheffield. There are always exhibitions advertised, although this time of the year is the slackest period for obvious reasons. The Great Sheffield Art Show in July is open to anyone to enter pieces of work and over 1400 paintings are finally on show and for sale. This is the largest indoor art show in the North of England. The superb Art in the Gardens event in September, in the Botanical Gardens, had over 3500 paintings for sale this year, plus thousands of other craft pieces. There were over 100 individual stalls to look at (90% amateur artists), plus the massive open art marquee. There are exhibitions on a regular basis in The Winter Gardens, plus those in the large council run galleries. I think you must wear blinkers!
