Anyone be interested in forming group to meet up now and then for multilink xbox games?
Would of course mean moving your xbox and TV to wherever the meet(s) is(/are).
I ask coz I new ish to the area and not met many folks who would go for this...used to do a lot in old town wiv load of people, regular 16 player halo - great laff!
Speedy_Jim 24-08-2004, 14:02 I'd be up for a bit of that. Of course the lugging tellys around doesn't sound like fun, but it might be worth it. You on Live?
I am on live, but get fed up with arsin about sorting out a decent game and muppets quitting games etc.
If you want to find me on live my tag is DaFoot.
Live enabled games....
return to wolfenstein
grand slam tennis (? not sure on title)
moto GP demo that came wiv live pack, same whacked.
Think there is another one but don't remember what it is now!
Speedy_Jim 24-08-2004, 14:25 I'm sure I've seen your name before somewhere... you post regularly on any other forums?
I've got a pretty big collection of games - I went through a phase of playing a lot of XBox over the winter. Since then I've not played much but am slowly getting back into it as the weather turns to crap
Know what you mean about Live tho.
I'd be up for a bit of that.
My Live tag is XboxManRichy.
Live games I own are:
Top Spin (Tennis)
Unreal Championship (FPS)
Dead Man's Hand (FPS)
Crimson Skies (Aerial dog fighting)
Capcom Vs SNK 2 EO (Fighting game)
World Championship Snooker 2004 (Snooker sim)
To be honest I don't particularly relish the prospect of lugging me telly around, but I'd be happy to indulge in a game or 3 over Live with you
DaFoot, I just sent you a friends request over Xbox Live
Thats the other one... Crimson skies :)
And the it might be the tennis game I got is topspin but not sure off top of head.
If the missus will leave the Olympics alone I might have a go online tonight, pref in game?
Live is good but am really keen to get meets going...better to see ppls reactions to killing/dying and hurling beer cans at each other :)
Those that r interested in sorting regular(ish) meets for games, please could you either sign my web page guestbook (bengeorge.info) or email me...
'iknowTAKEtheTHISblokeOUT[at]dafoot.co.uk'
remove the 'TAKE THIS OUT' - it's there to try and slow the email harvesters.
Speedy...have been known to use a number of forums, usually just for short times. Don't know where you would of seen name..possibly xbox live?!
Speedy_Jim 24-08-2004, 15:51 Could have been xbox live. Or I could have imaged it I guess
My gamertag is Mr Belowski - but I'm still not on Live much these days. Most of my limited XBox time is spent trying to master Richard Burns Rally
But beer and multiplayer gaming gets my vote over Live, even if the telly lugging is a pain. Not being able to flog the v's when I win kinda takes the edge off for me. If there was to be any gaming sessions, maybe an evening's drinking might break the ice first? I mean, it'd be a pain to lug a telly somewhere to find a room full of the most irritating and tedious people you've ever met, wouldn't it?

Two very valid points! Will wait a bit for more responses then sort meeting folks in a pub.
any more interest goin on? Lots of ppl must be interested coz had quite a few reads of this thread...
Reckon I might have found somewhere we can have these games - couple of possible places in Hollsborough, unless folks want to volunteer their house late into the night?
Robbie Loving 07-10-2004, 16:49 how do you go on "live" on x-box? and how much does it cost?
Conor_Boyd 07-10-2004, 20:34 can you not setup the likes of a private server or something that you would with say something like Unreal Tournament on the PC? much easier than lugging the telly all over the place i can imagine.
Robbie:
To get onto xbox live you need an existing ADSL (aka broadband) connection at full 512Kbps rate.
You then need to get hold of an account starter pack - these come with 1st years subscription + headset. Or get a 2 month trial with many 'live enabled' games.
Conner:
Using xbox live it is possible to setup games with only people you invite, but it just not the same as getting bunch of people together, drinking beer and flicking Vs at each other when they die/kill!
Oops..forgot cost - starter kit arount 35-40 i think. Annual subscription around £30.
Costs on top of any existing broadband/adsl costs.

ah yes the frag dance :gag:
<note: careful spellchecking went into the above comment>
Robbie Loving 08-10-2004, 09:55 so if im on AOL broadband already, think its the 1meg connection,
it wont cost anything extra except what i have to pay to get started/???
'the frag-dance' - good name for it :)
For live you should be ok to go out and buy a starter pack and u be off (will need games that are capable of live play - not all are).
Check you config...if using a seperate ADSL router/firewall on network type setup u can plug xbox into this via UTP patch cable. Other wise if usb modem attached to PC for ADSL then u need network cable to go from xbox to PC network card. Tho I not had any expirience connecting this way (I have separate router for home network) I been told it is easy to do.
Conor_Boyd 08-10-2004, 10:53 if you do have a usb adsl modem then i would recommend going with the hub/switch option as you can get them really cheap these days from someone like http://www.scan.co.uk
think there is one in there for something like 17 quid!! gives you more flexibility for the future and thats about the same price as the network card you would have to buy to do it the other way :) well maybe a little more expensive but like i say there are other advantages.

I think most of them who aren't AOhell support Live, I'll be going with Plus.net soon when I can get rid of Pipex but they're being arsey and are annoyingly hard to contact.
Conor_Boyd 08-10-2004, 12:58 www.zen.co.uk or www.onetel.co.uk
onetel can be good if you go with one of the phone options also. im with them. but before that i was with Zen and i didnt have any problems at all.
Robbie Loving 08-10-2004, 14:13 i would rather go on telewest but cant get it round my area, are onetel etc available everywhere??
how about BT open world?? suppose could switch to them
Conor_Boyd 08-10-2004, 14:18 yeah as far as i know onetel and zen are everywhere in the uk that you can get broadband at this stage. go to the bt site and there is a checker there somewhere. onetel might also have one on their site that could be easier to find.
There is always the XBConnect option, this is a program that sits on your PC and fools your xbox into thinking it is on a LAN, this is totally free, which is a major benefit and I believe it will work on any ISP, so even you AOHell'ers can get a blast on xbox online.
Check it out at XBConnect (http://www.xbconnect.com/)
Speedy_Jim 11-10-2004, 08:22 I *think* AOL has started supporting Live now, but it's worth checking. But AOL might not work too well for gaming. A lot of their traffic is routed through the USA which means it takes a little longer for that all important head-shot data-packet to reach your opponent's XBox / PC. By which time they've moved, so you miss.
Most of the UK ASDL providers are fine with Live, but make sure you get a service that *doesn't* have a download limit. A lot of the cheaper packages limit you to downloading a total of 2 gig's worth of data a month, which is too restrictive for regular gaming.
Annnnyway....
This XBox thingy. I'm still up for a spot of drinking and gaming. In no particular order. I've got a busy week and I'm away getting my backside kicked in Sweden cos of some work crap next week, but I still reckon there's some mileage in a bit of killin sometime soon. Especially as it's getting winter now so we all got an excuse for staying in more.
My gamer tag on Live is Mr_Belowski, if anyone's interested. I'm utterly utterly unbeatable on PGR2, so come an 'ave a go if you think yer 'ard enough ;)
Jim - don't suppose u would happen to work for a company called nCode?
Speedy_Jim 12-10-2004, 15:59 Er... I'm quite scared now. Yes I do. And if it's not too rude, who the hell are you??
;)
work with a sub-contractor type thingy innit
Robbie Loving 12-10-2004, 18:15 can somebody find out if i can get on "live" with AOL broadband
i cant find it nowhere
Speedy_Jim 13-10-2004, 07:04 http://www.aol.co.uk/products/broadband/faqs.html
near the bottom. Looks like AOL 8 & 9 will work, but as it's a USB modem you'll need to use Internet Connection Sharing with a PC. So your PC is connected to the internet, and the XBox is connected to a second network card in the PC via a cross-over cable. It's cheap and easy to set up, and works OK too.
AOL is never going to be ideal for gaming, but it looks like it does *work* now. Perhaps you should ring 'em and confirm this before you splash out, but a second network card and cross-over cable is only going to cost a tenner or so. Might be worth a try before changing broadband supplier if you're planning to get Live anyway
Halo2 is nearly here, until get a meet organised I'll c u all on live?!
Just a few days then will be putting all work on hold and stocking up wiv beer and pizza, don't plan to leave the house for a long weekend :)
Speedy_Jim 19-11-2004, 09:13 Dunno about you, but I find the Halo 2 Live interface a bit too restrictive for my tastes. Combined with the incredibly slow match finding (has Live been running slowly or is it just my connection?) I've not really got into Halo2 online.
Offline it's ace, of course, but damned hard on Heroic. I'm forever backed in a corner having to fight my way out of tight spots and dying a lot. Grrr. Top fun tho. I've only got as far as Earth cos of Half life 2 distractions
Looking forward to a bit of co-op fun too
live interface is restrictive..but it does a good job of reducing problems of online gaming (eg ppl taking advantage of hostin own games-lag/settings etc).
Can be slow joining a game, but the upside is u always get ppl of similar ability.
Finished on normal in 12 hours ish, went straight to legendary after that - just aint happening! Have to step back to heroic me thinks ;)
U been playing the big team matches? They r fun.
Will probably be playing tonight....if you care to join me in a few team matches? (add me to ur freinds list so can find u later if u want to play)
Speedy_Jim 19-11-2004, 09:43 I might just do that. I've been neglecting halo 2 in favour of half life and drink, so I'm due a good session
yay my broadband is back - so I'm back online as DaFoot if ne1 fancies a game! If you want to send freind invites to join parties make sure u include a message about who u are or I will ignore request :)

Now that I have finally got my connection back in order after nearly 4 months at speeds less than dial-up! I am back to playing online lots, mostly halo2 recently.
