Okay, so I'm a little late this year - been VERY busy.

Sheffield Fayre is THIS WEEKEND in Norfolk Heritage Park...it's taking the place of the Sheffield Show as the Bank Holiday place to be this year, so please come support us.

As every year, entry is FREE, and there will be loads of fun things to do...funfair, craft tent, the North's largest multi-period living history show - romans to WW2...and loads more.

Come have fun and support Sheffield's biggest FREE event. We've all worked really hard this year to make sure it's a good one.

And make sure you come and catch up with me:D

So who from here is coming? I managed to meet a few people from the Forum last year...we could arrange a time and place at the Fayre for a Forum get-together...on the waltzers, lol.

Geoff - are you wanting any of us to hand out flyers for you this year?

Not-at-all-stressed, and looking forward to it,

Cosy:P

I'll be coming on Sunday afternoon.

A forum meet sounds like a good idea - it was a good day out last year.

So - who else will be there on Sunday afternoon?

LOL! not stressed cosy, ha ha, it must have moved onto me this year! All these blooming display boards...grrrr

I'll be there both days & would like to sneak off for an hour to meet the forum lot

LOL...don't worry, I'm sure it's all just waiting to pounce on me tomorrow.
Final meeting last night...the event's looking better and better...we're getting new stuff every day. The last thing is a large falconry display...and ferret racing:confused:.
And not to worry, the weather will be fine, and the Fayre will go ahead, come hell or high water.

I'll be there both days, too. So come on you lot, it's up to you to make sure Designbunny and I have long, happy, smiley breaks meeting up with the rest of you Forumers.

I was there last year and I strongly recommend that you all make an effort to go this time round if you didn't last year because it was a very enjoyable weekend.

There were plenty to do and best of all it is FREE.

Don't forget to bring a camera!!!

Thanks, Internetowl, for reminding me:

Sheffield Fayre is taking place in Norfolk Heritage Park, Norfolk Park. For more info on Norfolk Heritage Park, visit Friends of Norfolk Heritage Park (http://www.norfolk-park.com) There should be a map.

The park is easily reached by tram - alight at Arbourthorne Road and follow the signs...and by bus - 21, 41, 95, 120, 7, 132, 50, 8 & 9.
Car parking is off Norfolk Park Road, and will cost you £2.

The event is open Sunday and Monday, 10.30am-5.30pm.

Sheffield Fayre is not-for-profit, and we have a huge amount of difficulty keeping it going financially. It is, after all, a free event. So if you see any donations buckets, please drop some pennies in. I'm aware that some people will think it's a bit cheeky, but we are determined to keep the Fayre going and keep it free and accessible for everyone.

Looking forward to seeing you there,
Cosy

Well we're hoping to pop up on either day, depending on the weather!! robably be Monday. IS there a specific time/place where folks are going to meet on both days?

cosywolf
27-08-2004, 16:00
Doesn't look like many people are bothered about meeting up, but a few of us from the Forum will actually be working it both days, so I'll drop in a meeting place and time, and we'll see what happens. Gives us a coffee break, at least:D

2pm, Saturday and Sunday, outside the entrance to the Horticulture marquee.

If you do drop into the Fayre feel free to come in and say hello...horticulture tent...sheffield wildlife trust...norfolk park greenspaces project...ask for laura.

Make sure you all go and enjoy yourselves!

Cosy:thumbsup:

I just wanted to say what a fantastic day we had today. A huge pat on the back to all who worked/organised/volunteered at the Fayre. It was an excellent day with so much great stuff to see and do. The re-enactments were spectacular and I particularly loved the Underwear through the ages show!!

Well done to all involved and can't wait till next year!!

designbunny
31-08-2004, 06:55
Glad you had a good time - did you pop into the horticultural tent to visit the wildlife trust?

We were pretty busy both days & didn't get much chance to see the rest of the show, but it was fun all the same.

We went, and had a lovely time.

cosywolf
01-09-2004, 09:02
I'm so glad people went and enjoyed it, it makes it all worthwhile hearing that...

Sorry if you were about at 2pm on either day, we were rushed off our feet, and didn't get a chance to see anyone. Did any of the rest of you meet up?

Pauly - where was my hug? :P

This is my first day back at work and I'm exhausted, but I'm really pleased with how the whole thing went this year. Masses of thanks to Designbunny and the others who kept me out of the madhouse this year, sorting the Trust out.

Should we do it again next year?

I believe it is Sunday only at 3:15pm.I also hope the re-enactment displays are on the flat part where the funfair was last year.As this has a sloping bank and makes an excellent natural arena.

Trams are running a Sunday service.

Give me a shout if you're going on monday - I only live a minute away :)

We're going by car coz somebody in their infinite wisdom deemed trams to be a dog free zone

vidster
28-08-2005, 13:59
I'm only 2 mins away and i can hear the guns going off right now :)
I think we're going tomorrow though. If you are going by tram you can get off at Arbourthorne Rd stop and walk down towards the new school. That is where the main entrance is.
If you get off the tram at Park Grange stop you can walk over to the shops and walk across the grass at the side of the small excuse of a kids playground. There is a worn track that takes you down in to the bottom of the woods. This is the quickest way in to the park

the WW2 Pill box assault was ever so funny - the timing was a bit out but added to the comedy value of it....

The Lanc was awesome as it circled around overhead...but its no wonder so many got shot down it was soooooo slow :)

The Vikings got a bit aggresive in the demo - a few sparks of axe on shield :)

kblade
28-08-2005, 16:54
Well we've just got back after popping over for a quick look as we'll be going over for longer tomorrow hopefully.

I held a Kestrel which I was most chuffed about but the poor birds did look quite stressed in the sun :( They are obviously very well cared for by their handlers though :)

Vidster and I did some stalking too, followed a couple around the park with a Beagle dog wondering if it was Strix, so if you saw a couple with a child Strix around the stalls (the child stroked your dog) it wasn't some nutters (debatable) it was Vidster and I :D

:suspect: We turned into one of the exhibits this afternoon!!!
We have been photographed by both Japanese and American tourists, stroked by numerous kids, fussed by numerous adults.

C'mon KBlade and Vister, give us a clue - how do I know which of our new friends were you!!! :)

The Fuji is like a dream compared to the little instant camera we have. I have no idea what everything does yet though :suspect: and I've still only got the 16MB card that came with it. 8 shots at maximum resolution  I don't think i need it set that high but I'll start another thread on that one ;)

I didn't take that much notice of the clothing Strix (too busy looking at the Beagle). Is your hubby is about 6'3" and were you wearing Adidas trainers, jeans and your hair in a pony tail?

If not, there must have been 2 Beagles :?

We noticed one of the Hawks pulling at it's tether like mad. Maybe that is the one that made the escape :(
All the birds of prey looked pretty hot and bothered though.

I don't think you'd have taken much notice really. We were all standing at the stall selling African type carvings and i told my daughter it was OK to stroke Brude.

I had a navy blue tracksuit top on and jeans, hair up with a clip in a twisted pont tail. Vidster was in dark clothing and has short dark brown hair and our little un who stroked who we presumed may have been Brude was in a light coat, like a puffer jacket with a hood with fur round the collar. We were going to ask the dogs name but as you walked by I thought I heard your voice and call the dog something else  :D

Phooey. We were too concerned about Brude's latest phobia - African art  to be paying attention to who else was there then. He had a traumatic afternoon during the re-enactments.

Or sometimes people think he has a Japanese name - Ho-sin.

I've just got back from the event with Max and he is now laid recovering from the ttrauma of having to put up with numerous bangs and explosions, poor dog thought bonfire night had come early.
I often wondered where all the white canvas tents went to that scouts used to use, now I know. Found the sight of a woman dressed in early American attirre? answering her mobile quite amusing.

Ive just got back home too having heard loud bangs and shots for two days and for the people running the civil war reinactments shouting at me because the music and announcements I was making at the side of the centre in the park building was far too loud and it was disturbing them. ended up playing some games for the kids and then just played some relaxing tunes all day did have to make rather a lot of annoucnemtns for the event safety team thought but hey it was a good couple of days and the weatehr was good

Looking forward next week to the art in the gardens at the botanical gardens, not a free evetn but i am told a very nice collection of art and things arty, so if that is your bent check out the parks department website all details on that.

Tara's the same fat, snoring, Staffie she always is  She tried catching another Fox tonight. When will she learn that they're 3x faster than her

The fayre will be back next year Strix. Maybe we'll just walk up to you next time instead of stalking you round the stalls :suspect:

There are a few members i think i saw but never noticed. Wallbuilder and his black Labrador (talking to another man who had two black Labrador's )
Foxprom plating the music 8)
ReginalD polishing the beemers (have a few pics of those to post for 1Man)

He might recognise us too, but as we were sat with our backs to him to watch the birds of prey escaping, we won't remember him

This whole event has turned a bit 'where's Wally?' :hihi:

I have a picture in my mind of the crowds of people strewn across the park, and all those mystery forummers who chat so often but had no idea of the proximity of the next forumer there :hihi:

I was thinking of wearing my t-shirt but thought that might be a bit :|

Be very careful, I used to get that sort of attention when I went to gigs at the city hall. Anybody who knows me will know what I'm on about.
Talking to a guy with two black labs??
I talked to quite a few dog owners but can't recollect that one but it's possible.
I have a feeling I should of worn my forum teashirt as I probably saw but didn't identify hundreds of fellow forumers.

'Spot the forumer' would have been a similar game this weekend :D

I think I'm going to stop walking max as he seems to be a bit of a give-away as to who I am, Muddycoffee got me last week by saying Max's name as i approached him and Max of course responded.
I did see a couple of weeks ago a rather attractive young woman with a beagle and for a moment thought Hmmmn is it?
But then decided not.

On behalf of all the "fancy dress types" I'd like to say what a great event, but we had to spend the ENTIRE weekend on our camp protecting our belongings from the theiving little skrotes that the **** useless security were doing sweet FA about.

Other than that it was great.

made of sterner stuff or what!

It wasn't actually me on the bmw stand, well I was there but it was my dad the computer was logged on with my username instead of his. Maybe in the future I could be driving his cars but only just started having a drive about at lightwood and I definetly would'nt get insured on them at the moment.
