I have a lovely wool jacket, but i don't like its beige colour, does anyone know if it would be possible to dye it black? :help:

No reason why not, you can get some good quality dyes these days. try atkinsons

the only thing that would get in the way is if it's not 100% wool, check that out first cause it might end up grey

There are different dyes for different fabric makeups- it may be easier to dye it tonally to a brown shade than black, since black is a notoriously difficult colour to maintain.

There's a good selection of dyes downstairs in John Lewis too.

I believe you will need to use an acid dye to get the best results - but its not so easy to get hold of good dyes like that on the High Street. A standard Dylon machine dye will not work with wool as it is an animal fibre rather than plant fibre - so make sure you get something suitable for wool (Dylon do a multi purpose one that they say should be ok - not heard very good reports though - but 1 tin only does 250g and you have to simmer it so you will need a very big pot :hihi:). As Medusa said black is difficult to do so you may be better with a different colour. You can dye wool with Koolaid (like squash but in crystals) and even jelly crystals work strangely enough:o I think Beansforyou on the knitting group has the best experience of dying wool - maybe PM her :)
