Does anyone have any information about the text that was written on a bronze plaque that was inset into a rock face above the stone seat, built above 'Little Johns Well' near the long pole, in Longshaw Park. or have a photograph of it or have the actual Bronze Plaque.
I understood the it referred to Mrs Ethel Haythornwaithe, Formerly Mrs Gallimore who was the founder of the Sheffield Branch of The C.P.R.E. and first Secretary of the National Trust Longshaw Park House Committee and instigator of J.G.Graves buying Blackamoor for all to use along with persuading D.Doncaster to donated a considerable sum of money to assist the National Trust to buy The Longshaw Estate. Because all this area would have been built on in the early 1920 -30s. Mrs Ethel M B Gallimore, later becoming Mrs Haythornewaithe, through her wisdom, enabled the Peak District National Park to exist today.
