View Full Version : Road Rage
I saw something funny this weekend.
It was a mad road rege incident. This red car turned right in front of oncoming traffic, needless to say, nearly causing an accident.
Then the passenger of the car that nearly caused the crash started effing and blinding :loopy:
I mean, the passenger! The driver was looking embarrassed.
Anyway, the driver of the other yellow car just sat there, I couldn't see his expression as I was in the car behind. I don't know if he aggravated the situation.
But this angry bloke jumped out of the red car and started screaming at the yellow car... and I mean, he went totally balmy.
Is this normal or is it the actions of a sad case chav? I mean, he was a passenger! The driver of the red car, another young bloke, less chavy looking, had his head in his hands. He eventually drove his car out of the way and we all drove off leaving this nutter standing, screaming in the middle of the road.
Has anyone else seen examples of passenger road rage?
Have you been in a road rage incident?
DaBouncer 23-08-2004, 15:58 I have been a passenger and committed road rage :(
However never done it when I or the driver of the car I have been in has been the one in the wrong.
My story is:
Young Boy Racer in his Gold Peugot forces his way into the lane me and my wife were in basically forcing us to slam on the brakes or get swerved off the road.
My wife honks her horn in frustration (no swearing or vulgarity - just a honk) and the young lad starts F'ing ang Blinding back.
Me being over protective of her naturally got out of the car and stormed towards his car (we're now at red lights).
Young lad winds up his window and wont get out of the car.
I try his door but obviously locked so I give him a little shouting at in his car and warning about things to come should I see him again.
He naturally s*** his pants and drove off as the lights went green. He dissappeared in a cloud of smoke and I got back in the car to my wife who was obviously embarressed.
However, upset my wife and being in the wrong I'll happily do the same again.
Never committed road rage, and have been on the receiving end once - from a pedal cyclist.....with a bike chain.....
Fortunately we stood our ground and he didn't whack either of us with it.
Ho hum!
Joe
Agent Orange 24-08-2004, 08:11 I'm usually quick to lose mt temper, but I've never gone as far as saying the odd swear word to fellow motorists. Although, I have been on the receiving end of road rage a few times. I was driving in the left hand lane of a dual carriage way when I moved over to the right lane for an oncoming roundabout and I pulled out in front of a lorry that was a distance behind me. Anyway, the lorry driver really took offence and as we stopped to queue at the roundabout he got out of his cab and headed towards my car shouting, swearing and waving his fists. I really didn't want a confrontation and luckily for me the traffic started to move as this loon reached the side of my car. Looking back it was quite funny cos the lorry driver was left standing in the road blocking a lane with his parked lorry while the cars behind him were hooting at him.
I do get annoyed, but i don't get out of my car and shout and scream at people. What's it going to achieve in the end?
Things that annoyed me today on my commute included.
Several people driving in the middle land for no reason on the m6 toll.
Some idiot driving in the overtaking lane of the M42 not overtaking and doing 65 miles/hr
Someone who decided to go right on a roundabout despite being in the left lane, when i was going right and in the right lane.
Someone who cut me up coming off ladies bridge through the traffic lights (in the one way section) before the esso garage. Is it so difficult to stay in the correct lane?
Two people who joined the motorway at J33 doing 55 or 60 miles/hr despite the traffic doing 70 or 80.
I think that was it for today...
rooby_roo 26-08-2004, 08:49 Few weeks ago Im driving up Halifax road doing about 40.
There is a coach in the right hand lane who was stuck behind a car turning right at the White Horse.
Suddenly the guy in front decides to slam his brakes on to let the coach out even though he wasnt indicating or even edging out.
Naturally I honked the horn.
As we drove off the guy went bananas. He pulled into the right hand lane and as I drew level he was screaming that he was going to effing stab me. Thought this was comical as his wife and two small kids were in the car.
What I did next was possibly stupid but I swerved towards him - the scream his wife gave was amazing - just like out of a horror film.
As I went past them I had chance to look in the rear view mirror to see the nob-end get the biggest rollocking off his wife.
In my view that served him right. Gob****e!!
DaBouncer 26-08-2004, 09:08 That's just plain dangerous (although by your own admission it wasn't the bestthing to do).
I do get attacks of road rage (usually when my wife is threatened - as I get over protective), but I'd never swerve at someone with wife and kids in the car (especially if with kids).
No excuse for stupid dangerous driving no matter what the other dirver has done. If that was me and he'd have threatened to stab me, I'd have tried to get his attention and asked him to pull over. This usually stops the ones that act big in their tracks as they'll not get out.
However I have got a lot better these days and just let things go over my head. However anyone that threatens my wife or puts her in any danger (through stupid driving) will still have the quick tempered Mr DB seeing the red mist. Can't help that :(
SaxonLeigh 26-08-2004, 15:58 i have quite bad road rage but i've never & never will let get as far as me getting out the car.
i'm sick & tired of them silly scots changing the lanes over under tinsley via ducts & not putting notices up on the M1 slip road. i come down the slip road & i head for meadowhall/brightside, normally i would have got in the far righ hand lane & then when you get under the viaduct you would automattically change in to the middle lane. well at the mo its changed & you now have to get in the middle lane & stay in that all the way around. i know people dont know this & still get in the right hand lane but one bloke in a 4x4 agh he got me rilled. it was bumper to bumper all the way from the on the M1 down to newhall. i was in the middle lane under the via duct & this 4x4 was in the righthand lane & wanted to come into my lane. i couldnt let him in, i couldnt move so he just decided to push my car out of the way & into the car in the left hand lane, i was soooo mad!
i know this is prejudging or what ever but i'm beginging to come to the conclusion that women over 50 shouldnt be allowed to drive overly fast cars! driving down the M18 from my BF's this morning, i was going north bound on the M1 & there was this lorry & a red car in frount of me, the lorry was going slow, bout 60MPH, just as the lane split into two i decide to overtake the slow lorry & was expecting the red car too aswell but it didnt. just as i was parralle with the grass verge in between the north & south bound roads this stupid woman of late 40's to early 50's cuts me up with like a few mill between her car & mine! she was driving a Golf GTI & obviousley couldnt handle it as she was all over the place!
and dont get me started on the big roundabout at either end of the new north bridge in doncaster, people just dont know how to use it!
i rant & shout etc but i will let it pass after that, there is no need for getting out of the car & screram at someone. i let them know they were in the wrong & drop it!

I came down here Tuesday. Middle lane (viaduct) was backed up almost onto the motorway, with the outside lane empty.
I came down the outside, wanting to go round and down to Meadowhall, and saw carnage behind me as two lanes found out at the last minute that the viaduct was closed and was forced to continue round to the next exit.
Only had a couple of incidents this year but not exactly get out of car and fight road rage, just a modest exchange of views and profanties through the window..
The other thing that winds me up is people who insist on being right up the back of you (the kind of brake and think would they brake in time??) Are you in a rush mate ? Im doing the legal speed limit!! Once or twice I have dropped my speed say 5-10mph just to see the expression on their faces in my rear view mirror :D Stupid I know but I have an intolerance to impatient people.. :?
When you get cut up , just touch your horn to attract their attention, then blow em a kiss...they can't handle that, the chavs are all geared up for the fingers and a good shouting match and the blown kiss really passes em off.
Alternatively carry a hammer in the car and wave that at the buggas....and watch the damp patch spread along the floor, adrenaline is brown at times.

My car only has a 1.1 engine so I count myself lucky if i've reached that speed by the time I join the motorway. Its usually lorries and slow cars in the first lane anyway so I usually fit in til I build up speed then I join the elite :D
What i've found frustrating in the past couple of days is lorries using the outside lane of the motorway. They slow the traffic down (and raise my blood pressure) no end!! I know they are supposed to have speed limiters, but some clearly don't - 80 mph one was doing!
Lorries overtaking in general annoys me, especially on dual carriageways. I was on the A14 in Northamptonshire on Tuesday and there was not a car behind me for miles. One lorry decides to overtake another when the front end of my car has just begun to pass the back of the lorry (so I had to slam brakes on).
I was effing and blinding - flashing my lights and sounding the horn - mainly out of fright and frustration, but also to let the stupid git know I was there!!
By the end of his overtaking antics, there was a queue of about 20 cars behind me!
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Do what I do - turn your windscreen washer on. It flies up over your car and hits their windscreen. Do it for a while and they soon get the message.

then you need to adjust the washer jets as it's an MOT requirement that the washers should be aimed as to clean the windscreen efficiently

argh i HATE this - lorries in the outside lane of the dual carrigeway going 0.5mph faster than the lorry they're overtaking
i often dream of having a rocket launcher whilst waiting for lorries to pass each other on the m42 (2 lane motorway).
On a related point though, a queue of cars form, waiting to overtake the lorry A once lorry B is out of the way. Then some smart arse drives up behind lorry A and then indicates to pull into the queue at the front, that annoys me. I deliberatley move forwards to stop them pulling in.

Those cars should be waiting to overtake in the left hand lane surely? You wouldn't wait in the right hand carriageway normally would you? :loopy:
The outside lane is for overtaking only.

lol all these people with road rage and I'm learning to drive :o

Nope, you're preparing to overtake when you're in the left hand lane. You should only be in the right hand lane when it's clear to overtake.

Twin Air Horns normally do the job for me :D
MarkEMark 27-08-2004, 13:49 There was a lovely bit of mild road-rage outside the Broadie last night. A car had managed to drive in to the side of a bus (only ever so slightly).
It was good entertainment for all those sat near a window in the Broadie though. A lot better entertainment than last nights episode of Eastenders anyway, from what I hear...
I seen this too....lots of finger wagging and huffing and puffing and walking away and the back towards each other at high speed.
It seemed to amuse the boys in the kebab shop too....went on for ages. If Id have been a passeneger I wouldve hopped off for some chips
It was ace :)
Okay, so you're driving along in the normal lane. See a lorry, pull out to overtake. The lorry pulls out, forces you to brake and slow down.
By your logic you would now pull back into the left hand lane and wait until the other lorry had completed it's overtaking maneuveur before commencing yours.
Which we both no is not right. You stay behind the lorry that is overtaking and as it moves past the first lorry so do you, as it pulls back in you procede to overtake it as well.
Now add lots of other cars on the road all of whom were going to overtake the first lorry and you have a queue of traffic doing 57.5 in the overtaking lane waiting for the lorry that's overtaking to get the hell out of the way.

Nope, you're preparing to overtake when you're in the left hand lane. You should only be in the right hand lane when it's clear to overtake.
But by your logic everybody in the queue, once truck B has cleared truck A, will now have to wait for the slowest of the vehicles to achieve sufficient speed to overtake both trucks. This is what causes a lot of holdups on motorways and dual carriageways.
Someone in a small engined car accelerates up to overtake, pulls into the OVERTAKING lane but is stymied by our friendly truck driver pulling out in front. Logically, the driver of the small engined car should now pull back into the DRIVING lane as his impetus will have gone. Once the overtaking lane is clear and his car has once again achieved sufficient speed then, and only then, should he pull into the overtaking lane. Not sit there with a queue behind him while he does 57.75 mph.
..which would be fine if there would actually be a chance of getting back into the outer lanes once the larger engined cars have begun their overtaking.
Should larger engined cars have legal priority on the road? If you can afford the fuel bill to run a Jaguar, should the lower riff-raff in their fiestas get out of your way?
Perhaps they should doff their caps to the Jaguar driver as he passes, too?
even a powerful car would be unable to pull back out into the overtaking traffic until everyone had passed lorry a. Which is hardly fair if they were actually the first car there is it...
I've no problem with waiting for a slower car to finish it's overtaking so that i can carry on and overtake it in turn. And when i reach my desired speed, i pull in when possible and someone invariably overtakes me. The hold up is created by the lorry, not by the cars.
So it's OK for a car to generate a queue of traffic but not a truck? Sounds like double standards to me.
The lorry caused the queue, not the car and even small engined cars like my 1.1 fiesta will pick up speed faster than a lorry one it pulls back in.
Unless its on an uphill stretch of course - I WOULD pull in then :D
i've never seen a car driver take 8 miles to overtake a single other vehicle. At worst they take a few hundred metres if they're really struggling, then they pull in. I clocked a pair of lorries and it took 8 miles, which is about 8 minutes as well at their speed.
It's not 'okay' for anyone to cause a queue, you should only overtake if your maneuvuer won't cause anyone else to have to change speed or alter course. In a perfect world. Sometimes it's unavoidable that you make someone else slow down, otherwise you'd never overtake. But it's the scale of the slow down that's the problem with the lorries, and the length of time it goes on for.
And they can be pretty inconsiderate, pulling out and forcing me to slow down, when they can see full well that there is a space a mile long behind me during which they could have overtaken and bothered no one.
Maybe one of the driving instructors can clarify my memory of the highway code re:motorways and lorries. Are they not allowed into the fast overtaking lane, or are they not allowed into the outside lane of the motorway. You can see why that's relevant when it's a 2 lane motorway!
On a 2 lane motorway (eg M18) they can use either lane.
On a 3 lane motorway articulated lorries are not allowed in the third lane (note I did NOT use the term 'fast' lane as this does not exist).
damn.
i was so hoping that they couldn't use the outside lane on either motorway.
It's just the fast overtaking lane if i remember correclty.

The movement of the car forces water up and over the top of the car. This would happen even if the jets were pointing at the bottom of the windscreen.
Jeez I really wish you'd have tried it before posting then I wouldnt have to waste time repltying to you.
