The Limit, to see Revillos, Victor Drago, Purple Hearts, Secret Affair, Phil Rambo band and loads of fighting. Faces, Turn ups and Steely's, Penthouse, Bailey's. I was always too ****** to be allowed in Josies in anycase I didn't have a BMW keyring and the sicky smooth talk required to pull a bimbo.

Funke88
14-08-2003, 02:54
Yes, Josies was always like that. Full of poseurs and tarty girls in stilettos and tight skirts: Oh, that was me!
Ha ha, I met one my boyfriends there and he had a BMW.
Those were the days!

Hi All,

My hangouts were:-

Penthouse, Hofenbrauhaus, Wapentake, Nelson and the odd trip to Josephines with my mates from work.

I enjoyed every minute of it!! (Thanks Kathy)8)

Funke88
14-08-2003, 14:09
Hofbrauhaus: that brings back memories. Oompa bands and beer out of big steins. Dancing on tables too and music that we would be ashamed to admit that we enjoyed when in normal circles.
My hair wasn't shaggy or long enough for the Wapentake. I also didn't have the tattoos and leather that was required to get in.
I was a former punk rocker not a head banger. Josies changed all that as I became refined!! Ha Ha. Things may have changed but I still dance on the tables now and again!! LOL

Also did the Wap, when the police raided it we used to set ping pong balls on fire and let them smoulder, it drove the police sniifer dogs wild...don't know why! Oh, and the warm Newky brown....

You drove the dogs wild?
What dogs were they again?
Oh police dogs? Sorry :P

This sounds so familiar!Only I didn't do the Daisy very often but had loads of friends who did.
We always used to catch the late night bus home.I used to love it as it was always the same people on the bus!So if you were on your own because your mates had pulled you always had someone you knew on the bus.
I used to cath the one which did Stannington,Wisewood & then down to Middlewood.I was the last one of all my mates to get off!!
Which was your late night bus?

We used to come from Filey just to go to the Limit, on West Street in the 80's...and then drive back or sleep in Weston Park if we were too drunk.

Wearing the gear required, we were considered fraks inn our little part of Yorkshire!

More 80's than 70's but I seem to remember my week consisted of:

Roxys up the ramp of shame on a Tuesday for party night (free tickets/bottle of plonk)
Romeos on a Thursday night for more of the same
Fannys at Owler Bar on Friday if we could get someone to take the car
Kiki's Saturday
Charlie Parkers Sunday

Every other spare minute was spent in the Woodthorpe pub.

Hi Marie, maybe we know each other as I also worked in the Fiesta around 1978 we had some dodgy red uniforms made and a guy called Terry Pickering was the manager. Also worked in Baileys, Turn Ups and Five Ways/Fanny's. Have to agree Fiesta was brilliant, worked there when Alvin Stardust did a one night show also saw Jim Davidson in his early days. Lets see who else: Sasha Distel, Roger de Courcey, Martin St James to name just a few!Originally posted by marie1951

Looking through rose tinted glasses……you could have a good time in most of the clubs in the 70’s….I’ll always have a soft spot for the Crazy Daisy……the Northern Soul nights in Samantha’s bring back some good memories.

I used to work for Max Omare at his first club - Shades - on Ecclesall Road and I lost contact with him in 1970 when I moved to Essex. He was just opening the new club Genevieve which was on Charter Row under a multi-storey car-park.

I'd love to contact anyone who worked at Shades, or the staff who transferred to Genevieve.

On my night off I used to go to the Top Rank and The Buccaneer, but most of the others mentioned here weren't even open then...

All the best, Graham.

I'm presently compiling the 'Dirty Stop Out's Guide to 1970s Sheffield' which has pics/memoirs of all the fab venues mentioned. There's also a 'Dirty Stop Out's Guide to 1970s Sheffield' Facebook group with a lot of photos/ads from the era ( http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/group.php?gid=352642427121&ref=ts). The book's set to be out later this year...
