It's a good club and the place is all matted. tombodojoj 02-12-2003, 01:56 there are quite alot of aikido groups in sheffield if you have not found one, there are three located in the same dojo but at different times, have you never thought of doing budo taijutsu? Thank you:thumbsup: evildrneil 23-08-2004, 18:32 Try here - can't comment on how good/bad any may be though - sorry :( http://dis.shef.ac.uk/help_yourself/simple_search_description.asp?description2=aikido Ross P 24-08-2004, 14:14 If your really a bouncer why not contact Excalibur security on 07811943071 as they have a 'Real Restraints' course about to begin, taught by a Professional Cage Fighting Champion, covering grab and carry, restrain and remove and how to deal with real situations. if not then why not come train at sheffield Shootfighters on langsett rd in hillsbrough. Cyclone 25-08-2004, 08:25 not really the same as aikido is it. The university has an aikido club, I don't know the details, but try looking it up on www.shef.ac.uk DaBouncer 25-08-2004, 09:12 Originally posted by Ross P If your really a bouncer why not contact Excalibur security on 07811943071 as they have a 'Real Restraints' course about to begin, taught by a Professional Cage Fighting Champion, covering grab and carry, restrain and remove and how to deal with real situations. if not then why not come train at sheffield Shootfighters on langsett rd in hillsbrough. I WERE a bouncer until about May when I retired from the industry. I have been taught restraint techniques, search & Eject as well as conflict management. I want to do Aikido thanks - I don't need real street fighting courses. I enjoyed the art of Aikido when I practiced some years ago so I'd like to practice that again. However thanks for the input. Cyclone - cheers for the university heads up, I'll look into it. gregman 30-08-2004, 18:26 hey i regulaly attend aikido classes at the enlish institute of sport behind the hallam fm arena and the new ice skating place, obviously its amazing facility wise and so is the training which is ran by tow 2nd dan black belts. there is always a minimum of 2 black belts and as classes are seniors only and are around 10-12 strong there is a huge amount of personal tuition. times are 8-9 on thursdays Cyclone 30-08-2004, 20:34 i was under the impression that most instructors in aikido were generally at or above 4th dan... I could be wrong of course, maybe that was the just the couple of clubs that i've seen. jamesinjapan 18-02-2005, 14:34 hi, just to ask some more questions about the posted aikido information on this page. could anyone tell me about the styles of aikido practised in the formentioned dojos ? has anybody any idea on thr prices of the classes or there regularity ? would it be possible for me to join one of the university dojos if i am not a student? Hiya My ex did aikido for more than 12 years. When he moved to sheffield, he joined the aikido club at Sheffield Hallam and spoke well of it and the dan. They run classes on Mondays and Fridays and is open to all who have a Hallam sports card or something like that. http://students.shu.ac.uk/sport/ DaFoot 25-02-2005, 14:28 Originally posted by Cyclone i was under the impression that most instructors in aikido were generally at or above 4th dan... I could be wrong of course, maybe that was the just the couple of clubs that i've seen. Club at my old uni was run by one of lecturers - he never wore a black belt so assume not a dan. Pretty sure he would have worn a black belt if he could - was quite happy wearing the Haks and letting everyone know he was the 'boss' at the club. Guess an attitude he carried from being respected in academic circles :) wasenshi 25-02-2005, 14:48 Dan grades usually just wear hakama. :) DaFoot 25-02-2005, 15:07 Originally posted by wasenshi Dan grades usually just wear hakama. :) Indeed, but is not usual to wear dan belt with the haks? If not then apologies to instructor at that club I mentioned! ironhorse 06-05-2005, 07:52 There are two Aikido books by Sheffielders: 1 Aikido and Randori 2 Discovering Aikido EdEd 07-05-2005, 11:00 good one at sport hallam, runs monday and friday i think ironhorse 11-05-2005, 08:27 How do I find it? Which campus? claw 16-01-2006, 18:16 there is a very good akido club at the cdyst at crosspool on coldwell lane, an ex military guy that learnt the art in the far east country of origin Aefibird 13-02-2006, 00:22 Dunno if it is still going but there used to be a club at Waltheof Sports Centre, (Prince of Wales Road) which I trained at for a while. I loved training there (the Sensei was EXCELLENT) but it was a bit far for me to travel on a regular basis, plus I was the only female in a class of blokes which sort of put me off a bit. I'm actually looking for an Aikido or Judo club in the Rotherham area (I live in Wath-upon-Dearne), so if anyone knows of any...?! :) nigsmig 13-02-2006, 18:24 hi, the aiki club at shef hallam uni is at collegiate cres campus, 7-9 mondays and fridays, in the pearson building. there is a website www.sheffield-aikido.co.uk ANVIL 13-02-2006, 18:31 i'm pretty sure that the club at waltheof is still there maxismydog 15-02-2006, 13:59 I believe the club at Waltheof is Aiki-Jutsu, which is something inbetween Aikido and Ju-Jitsu. I know one of the instructors there. The aikido club at the English Institute of Sport at Attercliffe is very good and the facilities couldn't be better. They use the training rooms used by the GB Olympic Judo team. The instructors are indeed "only" 2nd dans but don't let that put you off. Breakbear 23-02-2006, 01:01 At Hallam University Collegiate Crescent / Eccy Road Campus http://www.sheffield-aikido.co.uk/ garryn 23-02-2006, 09:00 I'm actually looking for an Aikido or Judo club in the Rotherham area (I live in Wath-upon-Dearne), so if anyone knows of any...?! :) Don't know if its any good to you. I was looking a while ago for an Aikido or Judo club in rotherham (live in Maltby). Didn't locate any. I did find Ikkan Dojo in Dinnington. The guy teaches BBT. Its surprisingly good if you can get past the prejudices built up in the 80's movies. Aikido 14-05-2006, 18:38 The Sheffield Aikido Club now meets at the English Institute of Sport at 7pm on Thursday evenings. Its a fantastic venue and Aikido is a great form of self defense without knocking the hell out of each other. rowan01 30-10-2006, 21:21 there is a new traditional aikido club opened at 925 grimesthorpe road (sheffield judo club) classes are tuesday and thursday 7.30 - 9.30 women and men, non-experienced and experienced are all welcome. hopefully see some new faces there soon. will Rowan Aikido Kipple 01-11-2006, 16:29 I'm training at a Shodokan Aikido Club, actually the university one, but they have a town club as well.
